"Firstly it's in a great location right inside the beautiful town of Luca. Please note there may not be anyone around when you check in. Their website says there is someone there between the hours of 3pm to 6.30pm but we didn't see anyone and believe it is false advertising for the owner to put that down in his website.. Therefore please have your passport to scan and follow the instructions. I would much rather see humans but automated entry seems to be the way it's going. Everything is fine unless you have issues which we did. The main issue was the lack of hot water which made showering impossible unless you like intermittent cold with a little hot every now and again. I sent email requests before arriving which weren't answered and then asked for the hot water issue to be fixed but no reply. After 4 hours without reply I decided to call via WhatsApp and thankfully the owner answered and came to the apartment. He tried to say that the water issue wasn't a problem but I got him to look in the boiler room and he eventually agreed that it was at the wrong setting and fixed it. We also asked for coffee and tea which wasn't provided even though we they provided lots of sugar. But the next day we still didn't get coffee. It's only a small thing but it felt like we were an inconvenience to the manager for asking. I don't usually complain but felt necessary to leave a poor review. So if you have to contact the manager contact him via WhatsApp..hotels.com messaging doesn't work"

"This is a bare bones hotel. Front desk is only staffed on a part time basis. If you need anything ask the cleaning staff. No breakfast, coffee, or vending machines. Nicely remodeled though."

"Amazing property and the best host we have had in all of our travels. The room was beautiful and we had access to a lovely common space kitchen. The location was absolutely perfect as well. The host provided excellent information about the area and its history. I definitely want to go back to Lucca and will absolutely stay here again. Thank you so for the incredible stay ❤️"

"My daughter and I just walked in the door from a 2 week European vacation and it's unanimous that this was our favorite stay our entire trip. The hotel has a lovely old world Italian charm and the room was surprisingly roomy given the other hotels we visited. What really made it special was the staff. The breakfast was the nicest we encountered during our trip with the best pistachio croissants that we tried to replicate throughout our trip but were unsuccessful. The family-run hotel even made some special moments on Easter with the guests that really made it feel like you were staying with family. Loved Lucca and would 10000% come back to Hotel Alexander on our next stay!!!"

"I stayed in the twin room as a solo traveler - very comfortable bed and roomy bathroom as noted in other reviews. Having breakfast available was a nice option. I tried to get a hold of the host twice during my stay - once via WhatsApp re renting a bike and once via Expedia about bag storage - neither inquiry received any response. I’m very surprised other guests found the staff so helpful honestly. I had no interaction besides entrance instructions. "
