The Worst Hotel Experience of My Life
I travel a lot, but my stay at Meliá Granada was a very unpleasant experience that completely ruined our time there.
If anyone ever tries to sell you a LEVEL upgrade, be very careful — we were lied to on every point.
When we arrived at 8:10 p.m., the charming Raoul offered us the LEVEL upgrade for €95 per night, telling us that:
• we would get a nicer room,
• we would have a view of the Alhambra,
• we would have access to the Lounge with drinks and tapas included,
• and that we could have a late check-out until 4:00 p.m.
After we agreed and paid, he suddenly mentioned that drinks and tapas were only available until 7:00 p.m., meaning we couldn’t enjoy them on our first night, even though we had paid for it.
Fine — we mainly cared about the room upgrade and the late check-out anyway.
When we got to the room, it was exactly like the one I had originally booked. The walls were dirty, the furniture was damaged, and worst of all, there was no view of the Alhambra. It was completely false.
We complained, but once we had paid, Raoul became far less charming.
The worst part came later. Since we had our visit to the Alhambra on our last day, we were happy to have the late check-out. Just to be polite, I mentioned to the front desk that we’d probably leave around 2:00 p.m. But no — suddenly, that was no longer possible.
When we expressed our confusion to Adrián, who clearly didn’t care at all, he told us to come back the next day to check
