"This time we got the renovated cottage. It was clean and comfortable
. Overall this is a convenient location but the place could be a bit more spacious. We didn’t use the hot tub and sauna since it was all crunched within a very small space.
Breakfast is really good and staff was welcoming."
Aurora Hotel at Reykjavik-Keflavik Airport Terminal KEF
10/10 Excellent
"It was just a one night stay after landing a late night landing. It was a short walk over, staff was friendly and checked us in quickly, and breakfast was great!"
"Lovely hotel in a beautiful part of the town. The room was spacious with our party of 3 and the furnishings were luxurious. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the staff was very welcoming. We will stay here again."
"Our stay at Geo Hotel Grindavík felt very basic and functional, rather than comfortable or welcoming in a traditional sense. The hotel is simple and no-frills, with minimal amenities and a slightly worn atmosphere. While it serves its purpose as a place to sleep, it does not offer much in terms of comfort or character.
During our visit, the town itself felt unusually quiet and almost empty, which created an unsettling atmosphere. Many buildings and streets gave the impression of a place where daily life has been disrupted, and there was very little activity in the area.
The overall experience felt impacted by the wider situation in Grindavík, with the sense that normal community life has been heavily affected. This gave the stay a very different tone compared to other towns in Iceland."
"The hotel has renovations happening. The room was clean but very dark. We woke up to the sound of construction/machines. The bedding is not soft. The showers and bathroom in the room was nice. The rooms need more lamps and better bedding but overall was good for the price and close to the airport. Recommend renting a car to drive around."
"This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had.
The room was dirty, uncomfortable, and not remotely appropriate for four people, despite being sold that way. There was only about six inches between the bottom of the beds, which made getting to the bathroom extremely difficult. The layout was so cramped that it felt almost impossible to move around the room.
The outlets near the main bed were located behind the bed, so in order to use them, the bed had to be pushed even closer to the sofa bed, making the already tiny walkway even worse. There was also nowhere practical to put luggage or personal items.
The bathroom was another major problem. The shower water would not stay warm and kept switching between cold and warm, which made showering very unpleasant.
The room was also hot, with no proper ventilation and no fan. Even worse, in a place where the sun is out nearly all night, the room did not have blackout curtains. It honestly felt like trying to sleep outside in broad daylight.
Between the dirty room, poor layout, lack of ventilation, inadequate curtains, and unreliable hot water, this was a terrible experience. I would not recommend this hotel."
