"Winterstoke is a HUGE house with 4 massive double bedrooms and a large twin room. This does not feel like a holiday rental, it feels like a home. I have never stayed in a property that is so well appointed, every detail is covered. The quality of the house is really fantastic and incredibly comfortable. The back garden is lovely with a great area for entertaining, unfortunately it was freezing so we could not make use of it. We had a baby with us and the owner (sheila) had EVERYTHING...

The Carlton Hotel

2/10 Terrible

"Arrived, parked and checked in ok. Reception were helpful. Location of the hotel is nice right on the front. Now for the negatives... The hotel is dated and dirty. There is an old musty smell in the corridors and rooms. The room itself was dirty. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned and there were still old drink bottles under the bunk bed. The wallpaper was all hanging off and there was mold up the wall. The old green bath and stained brown toilet looked like something from the 1970s. I wish I took pictures. 2 of the plug sockets didn't work. We were there for one night on a pit stop before getting the ferry. So we chose to just get our heads down and check out as early as possible. We were by no means expecting 5*, but I wouldn't even give this 1. Avoid avoid avoid."

"Good hotel. Really good breakfast, lots of choice. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Only annoying thing was that children could not use the pool until 9am. I understand why however we wanted a swim before breakfast so couldn’t do this as a family as we were heading off at 9."

Grand Burstin Hotel Folkestone

"Our room was dirty, floor not hoovered. Rice in one of the beds and windows and bathroom walls covered in smears and shower products. Our towels had been washed but had someone elses hairs woven into them. The bed was rock hard and the bunk beds squeaked so much it was too loud for us to sleep. Outside the hotel was incredibly noisy all night people on the street making noise which is not hotels fault but worth considering if you want any sleep. The menu had allergen notices that were incorrectly marked. We always double check and luckily the staff member was excellent in also double checking, however if I'd ordered my meal marked as allergen free as some would, I'd have ended up in hospital because it did contain the allergen it stated wasnt in it. The manager gave us free drinks and a steak to make up for it as I was unnerved to eat there being honest. She said she would have the menu corrected ASAP but I felt that was a huge issue that should never have happened. People can die from that kind of mistake. We tried to use the kids arcade but not one single machine worked so kids were disappointed. We dodged using the pool as we didn't have much faith in it being clean or safe after seeing our room."

"Good clean room. Bathroom looked as if it had been recently refurbished and was immaculate. A bigger bath mat in the shower cubicle would be advisable as the floor does get slightly slippy. Air con would have been useful, especially in the recent hot weather. Breakfasts were good but took a long time to arrive."

The Falstaff Hotel

4/10 Poor

"Disappointing stay overall. The room was extremely small, very hot, and the shower had poor water pressure. The room faced the street, so opening the window resulted in a lot of noise from outside. I requested a room change due to these issues, but the hotel was unable or unwilling to accommodate the request. The corridor to the room was also very low in places. Unfortunately, this was not a comfortable or enjoyable stay, and I would not choose to stay here again."
