Great hotel for a stay in Kyoto. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are well appointed and clean. Easy to walk to local attractions of jump on the subway to get to where you want to go.

This is our second time staying at Hotel Gimmond in Kyoto. It is a great hotel with clean, comfortable but small rooms. The hotel is close to the subway station and to restaurants and shops. And is a 15 min walk away from the Imperial Palace.

An older hotel in a great location, not exactly right in the middle of things but an easy walk to Karasuma, Kawaramachi, Ponto-cho and the riverside. My single room was small but comfortable and the bath was new and clean. Especially given the reasonable price I have no complaints.

Pleasant Week-long Stay

It was a very pleasant week-long stay at Hotel Gimmond for me! The polite hotel staff are always on hand to provide assistance when needed. I will recommend this hotel to traveller in Kyoto for sure

Loved my trip to Japan

My hotel stay at Hotel Gimmond was very nice. I was so pleased with the staff and their service. My room was very clean and comfortable. I would stay there again!

decent modern hotel in good location

Hotel is located near the intersection of the two main subway lines in Kyoto. It is a convenient, standard hotel with smallish rooms and standard amenities.

no way a 4 star!

We were in Kyoto for only two nights. This hotel is in no way a 4 star hotel. The rooms are small but tidy. Bathrooms resembled lavatories on an airplane. The location was good. The price was high for this property. From the looks of the hotel, I would've considered this a 2 star property.

A Great Place to Stay in Kyoto

The hotel staff were very accommodating and the room was clean and comfortable. It was also very well located; the subway was only three blocks away, and some sites were within easy walking distance. I didn't have breakfast there, but was able to buy what I wanted at the convenience stores in the area. The hotel is also very close to Kyoto station, the main train station of the city.

Great Location

Hotel is very foreign guest friendly and handles lots of western tourists. Rooms are just large enough as not to be crowded and beds are firm but comfy. One block from subway, which now has signs in English, and a short taxi from JR rail station. Right behind hotel is a great walking area of shops and food in old tradition and great 7-11 right in front of hotel, which does not put anything in the firge bar. Very reasonable rates and breakfast charge.

excellent staff and location

location is very convenient to the transportation and the market. Staff excels in being customer-oriented and attentive. Room is good based on prevalent standards in Japan, especially for the price. Will stay again.

Good stay

Comfortable stay; convenient location next to the Karsuma Oike subway station, and only a few blocks from major bus stops. Staff were very friendly and the room was clean. There are several restaurants and convenience stores in the vicinity. Note that there is no free breakfast.

Hotel was easy to get to near

Hotel was easy to get to near a subway stop. Also it's not a far walk from the Teramachi shopping arcade. The room was larger than most other double rooms I've stayed at in Japan. Free internet in the room was useful. The decoration was dated, and the bed was a little bit hard and springy -- not like the very soft mattresses that many places now use. Unfortunately the lobby smells like an ashtray because they allow smoking in the lobby, but I never stayed in the lobby more than 2 minutes so it wasn't a big problem. Overall, it was a good deal with a location convenient for the subway, but not right in the action.

The location is pretty good, only few minutes walk to subway. And within half an hour to reach the market and the Kyoto central, as well as some world heritage listed places.

Hotel Gimmond tries hard to please

Very pleasant desk staff. Surprised that the Hotel had not shifted to cooling on the AC given the warm weather. Asked to have a room away from the street to allow open window, and was promptly accommodated. Then, the desk called and said they had switched over to cooling for AC- and they had! The room was small, but no request was left unsatisfied.

Great stay in a perfect location

We stayed in Hotel Gimmond Kyoto for 3 nights in April. The location is perfect - just 2 minutes walk from a subway station, which is in turn just 3 stops from main Kyoto train station. Additionally, the location is central and very close to most of attractions. We walked most of the time, but there is plenty of public transportation available. The room was clean and had everything we needed, though pretty small one - not a big deal for us. For the price - we paid about $125/night (and we know how low USD currently is) - it's a great deal. I would stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

just what we were looking for

hotel gimmond is in a great location--walkable to some kyoto attractions (nijo castle, imperial palace, kyoto museum), and steps from the subway. helpful staff. the rooms are small, but the price is unbeatable. plenty of restaurants/shops nearby. highly recommend!!

Great location in Kyoto

I stayed in Kyoto for 8 nights. The staff were very helpful in translating Japanese advertizments which helped with my shopping. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the two subway lines of Kyoto. This with bus, suburban trains, or taxi I could be anywhere in Kyoto in 15 - 20 minutes. The Italian resturatant in the hotel was good, but tends to be booked by wedding parties (about 4. The apple pie shop around the corner is a great stop for american home style pies.

I live in Japan, so I expected

I live in Japan, so I expected a business style hotel when I booked Gimmond. It was pretty much what I had expected, small room, cramped unit bath and small TV. The price was in line with the room I stayed in. The location was great with subway lines close by and not far from the sites. The staff spoke English well and were very helpful when I had questions. One doesn't go to Kyoto to stay in the room so I think it is a good place to hang your hat. Don't expect luxury.

very nice hotel, i booked 1 double

very nice hotel, i booked 1 double and 1 tripple bedroom, the double bedroom is quite small compare to tripple bedroom that to my opinion can even put even 5 single bed. so my daughters were very happy as they have a bigger room. near to subway station, 2 minutes walking distance. you can even walk to nijo castle or imperial caste (only a station away from hotel). staff are also very helpful and they speak good english.

Hotel is very near a subway station

Hotel is very near a subway station which is great but not too convenient to the shopping district in Kyoto. The doors and walls are thin so from your room you can hear the coming and going of other patrons in the hotel. But like all Japanese hotels, the staff are incredibly helpful and provide very good service.

車椅子の身障者を連れての宿泊でした。色々とスタッフの方が気を利かせてくださり、大変助かりました。ただ、昔ながらのビジネスホテルのため、施設の構造上　レストランは階段が数段あって入り口が狭かったりお手洗いも広さが足りなかったりで車椅子の方には一部施設利用が不便な部分があるかなぁと思いました。そういった意味を含めて総合評価を4にしました。それ以外の対応は良かったです。また、風情ある神社が隣にあったり、有名なパンケーキのお店も近所にあったりと付近の探索は楽しかったです。

スタッフの方は丁寧な接客で安心しました。ですが入室時、男性の整髪料の強い匂いが気になりました。空気清浄機も強の状態で始終作動しており、壁に染み込んでいるような印象を受けました。浴室、トイレは全く匂いは有りませんでした。一晩中整髪料の匂いが気になり、あまり眠れませんでした。匂いが気になった時点でルームチェンジをすべきだったと思います。利便性は良いのでまた利用をしたいのですが、匂いの対策をお願いいたします。

便利だし、値段も手ごろだと思います。しかし、設備的には少し古い点も。カードキーではない、テレビサイズも小さめ（リモコンは大きめ）、洗面グッズの種類が少ない（もしかしたら、フロントにあって自分で持っていくスタイル？）など。清潔感はしっかりありましたよ。
