The Matka Lake is formed in this gorgeous canyon as the river running through the gorge is dammed. The created artificial lake is a playground for adventurers willing the escape the city life in Skopje or for those tourists willing to admire the canyon’s beautiful landscapes like I did.
Suggestion for a day trip: kayaking down Matka Canyon (close to Skopje). A gorge surrounded by steep rock walls. You will also discover what could be Europe's deepest cave!
Amazing walk along the Matka Canyon. You can also take a boat trip or hire a kayak. To get here take bus #6 from main bus station - 150 Dinar return (€2.50). Buy tickets at small kiosk before boarding. #hiking #nature

Included as part of the trip to the Millenium Cross & St Panteleimon monastery, again with our guide Smile who told us all about the area. This was our last stop of the day, and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant - refer photos. It was International Womens Day on the day of our trip, and it was a lovely gesture by the staff to present myself and my daughter-in-law with a beautiful plant (see pic). Quite busy so we had a fair walk from the car-park but was ok as we were prepared. Food at restaurant was excellent - price more expensive than in Skopje but no surprise as you're a captive audience. Also paying for the amazing views and great service!
