"Very clean hotel but looking a bit tired now, really thinking it needs a bit of a spruce up, upgrade in the rooms. Chipped cabinets, old worn furniture. Quite dated rooms for the park plaza brand. Comfy bed and excellent location so would stay again for this alone, Lovely welcome at check in, asked our plans we said we were dining out and were going to a local food feastival and the guy there gave us two vouchers for complimentary drinks he said “have a drink on us either on the way out or on your way home” which we thought was a lovely touch. Until trying to redeem them at the bar. It does state on the vouchers that the drinks are if you’re dining in the hotel but thought maybe that was an oversight as we’d clearly told the guy at reception our plans. We were planning on having a drink before heading out anyway but it was quite an awkward exchange with the gentleman at the bar who was quite rude and dismissive We were made to feel like we were trying it on/making up what the guy in reception had said. Perhaps reception need some training in this or re wording as there was another couple at the bar under the same impression,"

"Pros: Very clean and comfortable beds. Staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and a lovely gentleman carried my small suitcase up to my room for me. A 10 minute walk from Cardiff Town Centre. Cons: Mouldy and dirty shower which I did not use. It was very dated and needs a complete upgrade. Severely cracked plug socket next to one of the beds. Major safety hazard! Other double plug socket next to the other bed is faulty, only one side of the socket works. Room was very high up in the building and there is no lift. Stains on carpet. No bedside lamp, so it was either very bright or very dark. Next to a noisy road in a bit of a unclean area of town. Hot tap in bathroom was tempermental, didn't always work. Maybe the washers need to be replaced. Despite all of the above issues, me and my daughter did sleep comfortably but I wouldn't use this hotel again unless it was refurbished"

"Lovely welcome from friendly and helpful staff who were also able to recommend places of interest and best parking options. Room was lovely and spacious, with nice shower gel and lovely bedtime pack which included eye creams and chamomile tea, face cream and pillow spray. Breakfast was lovely with a lot of options."

"This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I genuinely cannot believe this place is meant to be a 4-star hotel. From the outside, it looks quite decent, and having a pool, gym and Starbucks on site gives the impression that it’s going to be a good stay. Unfortunately, that couldn’t have been further from the truth. As soon as we got to the room, it was obvious we’d massively overpaid. The room was unbearably hot, and the window had clearly been left open because there was no air conditioning at all. Instead, there was a tiny fan that was completely useless and just seemed to push hot air around. I complained to the duty manager, who brought a stronger fan, but it barely helped. To make matters worse, there wasn’t even any complimentary tea or coffee in the room, which is the bare minimum you’d expect. We then tried to complain, but got stuck in a ridiculous back and forth between the hotel and Hotels.com, each telling us to take it up with the other. After more than an hour of this, and feeling completely frustrated and let down, we ended up cancelling the booking and getting a refund. I would never stay at a Village Hotel again after this. Really disappointing experience, and nowhere near the standard it claims to be."

"Unfortunately we arrived on an extremely hot today to be told the air conditioning was not working and there was a fan in our room. The a/c was expected to be fixed the following day but this did not happen and it was out for the 3 nights we were there. The room was really warm and it made for very uncomfortable sleeping. The hotel offered free parking to compensate but this did not feel proportionate given the impact on the experience. The location was great for the variety of restaurants and shops."
