Central location, close to everything, quiet and safe. Tasteful rooms. Fantastic staff, very welcoming, helpful and competent. Lovely rooftop. A great place to relax and enjoy the historical district. Excellent restaurants close by and a short walk to the beach.

Location in the heart of old Mazatlan was perfect for Carnival 2020. The rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable. Front desk staff were great and always friendly. The rooftop pool is unheated, and the bar was closed during our stay (Feb 2020).

A lot of the building was under construction, therefore noisy after 9AM. Pool area bar was not set up. Otherwise, a very nice place with an excellent location near Plaza Machado.

Location, location, location! The Jonathon is hands-down the best hotel if you're looking for a place that's within reach of everything in Centro Historico. You can walk to the mercado, Olas Altas beach and the malecon, coffee shops and restaurants, and you're almost literally in Plazuela Machado. The staff are super friendly and always available to help. The hotel used to have a rooftop poolside bar a few years ago, but the neighbors complained. So now the rooftop is a quiet oasis to relax in the lap pool or find a sunny spot on a chaise lounge chair. The downside to the place is that the breakfasts are not what you'd be familiar with in the US or Canada. There's a small fridge atop the bar with "juices" (nectars), an urn of coffee and sugar-laden pastries (one of each type of variety). So if you normally feast on donuts and pastries for breakfast, that's what you'll get here. If you want a substantial breakfast... eggs, toast, bacon, etc... you'll have to venture out to any one of the several breakfast spots closeby. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, it can get quite noisy in Plazuela Machado with load music that can play on until 3:00 am. So if you're looking for peace and quiet on the weekend, the location of the Jonathon might not be your best option. Aside from that, I've stayed there twice and will continue to do so, unless I'm looking for a house-keeping (i.e. kitchen, cooking facilities) unit, in which case I'd opt for something else nearby. Overall, 4+ stars

Great location, facilities, and staff
The hotel is located right around the corner from the Plaza Machado. It is close to good places to eat, drink, and to walk. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach. My room was very comfortable, and the shower facilities were outstanding. The staff, particularly Alberto at the front desk, went out of their way to be helpful. My only gripe really isn’t directed at the hotel, but at the construction crews for the project right next door who started hammering on things at 8 AM. Next time I will ask for a room away from any on going to construction, but I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel was great and quiet (although it is hard to gauge when it is almost empty). The service though is something that can really tick you off. The promised included breakfast consisted of literally one muffin. You go into the breakfast area and see one muffin. ONE. The explanation I was given was - the other guests ate it all. Another point was - they don't have remote controls for AC. So if you want to adjust temperature, you actually have to get up from the bed and hit the buttons manually. That doesn't work grealy at nightm sibce you have to tturn the light on, break your sleep, etc. It looks pretty cheap when the hottel tries to save on such things. But the worst thing was the explanation that I was given when asked about the remote cotnrols for AC - I was told that 'this is absolutely normal and most hotels don't have it'. It is adding insult to injury.

How sad that always the comments of the guests affect the company, so today I am going to allow myself to explain the situation, since it does not make me fair that only part of the story is told, it is true that there was only one moffin but no explains that we approached you to tell you what bread you wanted to eat as we were going to go for more, because it was effectively run out by the other guests, we did not have remote control and it was explained that it is because of the hotel's different system , not that it was normal that there was not, but the part that you did not explain is that since the day he arrived he was very rude to everyone and we still wanted to give him a good service, that he answered very badly and that it is very difficult to please him . It is always said that the guest is right, but I think we should also add that in asking for the giving, we are all the same even though we are giving a service.

Old Town Mazatlan
Great location, great hotel! We got there way before check in and the hotel staff was able to accommodate our group. It was in the heart of Old Town Mazatlan where the farmers market is and walking distance to the beach. The room was beautiful and equipped with everything you would need. It was also very clean, which is my top priority. My ONLY complaint is that there wasn't enough light in the room. Other than that I would definitely stay here again!

Great price, nice style, perfect downtown location
I stayed two nights at this hotel and found it to be an excellent combination of low price and central location. It's not near a beach, but perfect for exploring the historic city center, and it's near lots of restaurants and small shops and attractions. The room was rather stylish, with interesting design elements. The rooftop deck and pool has lovely views of the historic city (you can even see the cathedral), although the pool is so small that when I was there a family was taking up the whole pool — but you don't stay in historic downtown Mazatlan to swim (choose a beach resort for that). This was a great deal, nice style and I loved being able to have downtown right outside my door.

Quiet Hotel close to Everything
Bathroom sink and floor could use cleaning. Other than that it’s a great location, pool on top, bar not operating, the breakfast well, don’t count on it. Was told Juice is at room temperature if you want any (it was 89 degrees inside) and there was only one apple on the tray. Coffee is ok. We didn’t care since you are right where all the little restaurants are located. Staff is friendly. We will go back!

Very Sad one night stay!
What you see in their advertising does not exist!!! NO wifi, NO computor service. Dirty/muggy swiming pool. Top deck bar - closed! Not fuctioning and inside was dirty!! Breakfast = SAD!!! Two old muffins and a dry pastry, with one old banana!! A completly dry bouquet of red roses was suppose to welcome me at the front desk :( ??? There was a safe in the room for valubles, asking how to change code, I was told: the code is: 1234# without the ability to change the code. It was fixed!! I asked the girl what is the point of locking anything in there?? The light in bathroom was poor! Stepping on stones getting in and out of bed was awkward! I stayed one night instead of 14. Found another very nice B&B close by - SOO much better!! Thankfully I was refunded for the nights not staying there. Only good thing about this stay!!

Hotel in the centre of town
The hotel has the potential to be very nice, with minimal lines an de furniture in the rooms. However, the continental breakfast offered was not ready at the time it was supposed to be and coffee was unavailable when required. We stayed there for two nights but our room was not cleaned on the second day despite of putting a note about it. Water bottles and towels were also not replaced.

Nice hotel
We enjoyed being close to the Plaza Machado and the quietness of the hotel. It was also close to the friends we were visiting. We have spent a lot of time in Mexico in our RV, but this was our first stay in Mazatlan in a hotel. We didn't want all the noise, hustle and bustle of the Gold Zone and this was perfect for that. We were somewhat disappointed that the restaurant had closed but there were restaurants around the Plaza so we certainly didn't go hungry.

Lovely, lovely little Boutique in Historico Centro
I had never stayed in the Historico Centro but gave it a 'try'. Upon checking in, Rachel had my reservation ready and escorted me to my room. It was lovely. I can't imagine the negative reviews I had read because this is truly a 'boutique' steps away from Plazuela Machado and its fine restaurant choices and entertainment. The bed/linens were superb. The amenities were plentiful...shower was great! The rooftop bar/pool is spectacular with views of the City. The best part is the Staff. They are most gracious and will do anything to please the Guests. Looking forward to a return visit.

Excellent Place to stay in Mazatlan-Superb Quality
Spent 3 nights at the JBH this past weekend. Great area, beach, awesome restaurants, music and arts all within walking distance. I was a bit disappointed because the very cool, rooftop pool is closed because of maintenance issues. I spoke to the manager and she was empathetic, professional and understanding. Once she explained the reason and provided very reasonable consideration, I was satisfied. As stated in other posts, there is some noise at night due to the live music being performed in the Plaza Machado. However, once you hit the AWESOME BEDS you will sleep like a baby! Rooms are very clean and the A/C worked to perfection. All the servers from the cleaning staff, to the front desk folks to the restaurant wait staff ... ALL were friendly and willing to try to assist in any way possible.

Trying too hard
Pros: From check in to check out, everything went smoothly; the staff was friendly and competent and helpful with good recommendations. A/C was good, and fresh water came daily. Cons: The design of the hotel is over-reaching: it wants to be hip and chic, and almost nothing about it comes together. The lighting in our room was miserable - too little almost everywhere, especially at the closet, and pretty useless in the bathroom. The desk was not useable because the chair wouldn't fit under it. The bathroom wall is disintegrating from moisture behind it near the sink. And construction next door started at 7:30 every day with loud hammering noise. It wasn't bad, overall. It just wasn't as good as it wanted to be.... I'd recommend it for location, and with caution...

Great little boutique hotel, classic Boutique style of blend of contemporary, local and a little cool factor. The hotel is well kept with an above average restaurant situated on the rooftop. Right in the middle of the refurbished old town, night life, yet calm rooms. The only downfall is the parking situation, it's down the street in a rather sketchy "parking yard"...

Great Hotel - Excellent Location
Wow we stayed for 2 weeks - the hotel is blocks from the malecon which is a 10km path along the ocean - so beaches galore within walking; you are right in the machado which has a ton of restaurants, entertainment in the eves and beautiful atmosphere. You are in the heart of centro - so much to look at, beautiful architecture, church; the marcado is within walking. Heck we even walked to the ferry to stone island (beautiful beach) The staff is amazing - many speak english which makes it easy; but they are personable, helpful and top notch. The food at the hotel is also extremely good - we did eat in many other places, but the hotel was always the best - hats off to the chef!
