Citizen M should lead with the fact that rooms are 150 sq. Ft. The entire room width is the length of a king bed. VERY cramped for 2 people. No coffee makers in room, 1 chair, closet too small for a suitcase. Lights, curtains, TV, controlled by an iPad but half of wall switches didn’t work; we could control the color hue of room lights (red, blue, etc) but it was all or none even if we walked to each outlet. 24 hour cafe is a spendy breakfast buffet with few vegetarian options (cold potatoes or breads) or premade salads and sodas in a fridge. 1 working elevator for most of our stay. I lead with the bad because these things were each extraordinarily difficult; esp. room size. One of us literally had to turn sideways for the other to pass in room with desk, sink, and toilet area all jutting in to the narrow (80 inch / 6.6 feet) width. Finally, for half our stay, water in shower was warm at best.
For a single person who has no issues with claustrophobia, will be in the room only to sleep and doesn’t care about coffee or hot showers, there is much to recommend citizen M. There’s always pleasant staff available in the lobby to assist with checking in or out, answering questions, storing luggage, or making coffee drinks. The 50th st location is an easy walk to most theaters but far enough from mid Times Square to avoid some noise and lights. Subways extremely close by as is MOMA, Central Park and Columbus Circle. But the tiny rooms are a deal breaker.
