"We rented a suite and everything was absolutely exceptional with only one disappointing exception... there was no in-room coffee. I inquired at the front desk... assuming that our room's coffee maker had malfunctioned and someone had merely forgotten to replace it. The room even had a safe (among many other features), so I just knew that it would naturally have a simple modern convenience like a coffee maker.
I was told that Holliday Inn started a new corporate policy to remove them as a "green initiative" to eliminate the "pod" waste. Because of this policy, I would have to get dressed and take the elevator all the way down to the 1st floor just to get my wife and I a coffee... and then take it back up to our room again. If we wanted a 2nd cup each (and we do), then I would have to do it all over again!
I agree that the Keurig brand machines may create a lot of plastic pod waste, but I am not happy with NOT having in-room coffee! Certainly, they could provide one of the cheaper older style coffee makers that use a packaged coffee bag in a thin package. This was the first time in DECADES that we have rented a room WITHOUT a coffee maker in the room!
This is NOT the fault of the local Holiday Inn Express & Suites Newberry (S.C.) however. They were terrific!! This is a corporate problem. Hopefully, whoever made this decision will reconsider and rejoin the multitude of hotels that provide their customers with the common convenience and comfort of in-room coffee again!"
