The Black Forest house(German: Schwarzwaldhaus) is a byre-dwelling that is found mainly in the central and southern parts of the Black Forest in southwestern Germany. It is characterised externally by a long hipped or half-hipped roof that descends to the height of the ground floor. This type of dwelling is suited to the conditions of the Black Forest: hillside locations, broad tracks, high levels of snowfall and heavy wind loading. Individual farms, such as the Hierahofnear Kappel, which are still worked today, are over 400 years old. The Black Forest house is described by Dickinson as very characteristic of the Swabian farmstead type.

"The room itself was OK, and the "hotel" was not so difficult to find. The problem was access. I got a message in German, but not being German it was not of any help. "Our stay has been perfect. The room was perfectly clean, nicely designed and enough spacious. The bed was comfy with two nice pillows each to accomodate different preferences. The bathroom has towel heater. The gym at the ground floor is well set up, The location is great, very convenient with a gas station close by, close to the highway and still very quiet. The breakfast is nice, maybe a little bit pricey. All in all, i think it’s an excellent option when visiting the christmas markets. "

"It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but also reasonably convenient for visiting Strasbourg. I stayed here while trying to visit the Strasbourg Christmas market. All the hotels in Strasbourg were 2-3x the price! The hotel is conveniently a 5 minute walk from a tram station that takes you right into the city as well as right to the Train Station. It does take some time ~30minutes into town and ~40mins to the train station. But as long as you don't need to go back to your hotel during the day it's not a problem. The hotel room was small but adequate given the price and overall clean. Water pressure for the shower was good. (2nd floor room) Another great thing is there are two groceries stores across the street that you can get breakfast, or drinks from. Especially great if you're travelling on a budget. Definitely one of the better B&B hotel locations. "
