"It is great modern hotel - very friendly and helpful staff and good value for money by Oslo standards. That is probably because it is away from the centre in a fairly uninspiring location. We didn’t have a car so travelled in and out via Okern T-bane station - it’s about a 10-15 minute walk away - not too far, but not super convenient. I wouldn’t like doing the walk after dark and once you are at the hotel, you’re stuck there. The top floor bar and restaurant is pretty run of the mill with a limited menu and, of course, the usual Oslo prices. I don’t mind paying high prices, but it has to be for exceptional food. My only other comment is that everything is very high tech (loved the lifts), but sometimes the controls in the room were a bit too clever by half. "

"Karl Johan Hotel, as the name would suggest, is located on Karl Johans Gate – a great, central location in Oslo. The parliament building is just across the road. The Royal Palace, University and Central Station are all within walking distance. When walking towards Central Station, you will find the Cathedral as well as lots of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. The central location means you can save on public transport or taxi fares. Norway is not a cheap country, and this really helps. A train from central station to or from the airport costs 129KR (around USD12.90) on a stopping service. The hotel offers a variety of rooms. I had a cosy single. This was small, but had everything you would need including a fridge, coffee machine, kettle, some free toiletries, free WiFi and a large smart TV which was useful if you wanted to watch YouTube. There was also a small safe and plenty of outlets across the room, as well as a work desk, bedside table, lamp and reading light. There were no USB outlets, so you will need an adapter unless you are travelling from a European-plug area. There was also no phone for calling in-between rooms or reception, but the phone signal and WiFi worked well. Other rooms available included double, and more superior rooms that are larger and have more facilities. If your phone is eSIM compatible, you may want to consider an eSIM for internet access whilst out and about. Breakfast is included in all room types and rates."

"What a great location! Right across the street from the main train station and the central shopping district. Excellent restaurants in the hotel,on-site parking(a VERY bid deal in Oslo) and nice rooms."

"The room was small (but servicable) by US standards. Our room had a very crazy shower. The shower was in a corner of the bathroom, with two glass doors that both moved. The bathroom's tile floor sloped toward the drain, but there was nothing at floor level to contain the water, so a good deal of the bathroom floor ended up wet when taking a shower. A very odd design."
