Paddington Markets

Paddington Markets
Support emerging designers and local community causes at one of Sydney’s original art and craft markets, featuring over 150 stalls.

The Paddington Markets are as much an informal community hub as they are a showcase of local art, design, clothing and food. Since they began in 1973, these popular markets have operated on a not-for-profit basis, providing a platform for neighborhood small businesses and emerging artisans to sell their wares. Even as Paddington has become an increasingly well-to-do neighborhood, the markets have remained community-run and distinctly quirky. Visit the Paddington Markets to check out the goods offered, indulge in a locally made treat and enjoy the atmosphere.

On any Saturday, rain or shine, head to the grounds of the Paddington Uniting Church and the neighboring public school. Wander around 150 unique stalls, each offering products designed and crafted in Australia. Pick out a gift for a loved one or grab a unique personal memento of your time in Sydney.

The Paddington Markets are dedicated to supporting local emerging artists and designers. Browse the artisan jewelry, graphic art and vintage bric-a-brac on display. Chat with the stallholders, some of whom are veterans of the markets, to learn more about their craft and inspiration. Breathe in the smell of soaps and candles or hunt for the newest addition to your wardrobe.

As an initiative of the Paddington Uniting Church, the markets operate strictly on a not-for-profit basis. Spend with the happy knowledge your purchases will go toward a worthy local cause, since proceeds are used to fund projects supporting the homeless and disadvantaged.

Try handmade chocolates, fresh-baked bread and artisan cakes from stalls around the site. Relax under a tree and enjoy a snack from the markets’ food court accompanied by the sound of live music or put together a picnic and head to the nearby Paddington Reservoir Gardens.

The Paddington Markets take place every Saturday near the Paddington Uniting Church on Oxford Street. Travel by bus from central Sydney or Bondi Junction directly to the entrance or join the scramble for nearby street parking. Food and drink are available from numerous stalls and at Paddington’s many restaurants and pubs.
