"Blackbeard's is an older hotel very conveniently located on the island. maintenance lacks. Ice maker broken, faucets are loose etc. The staff, Cynthia, was very helpful and responsive."

"The room was nice and cold when we got in (unheard of for a lot of places honestly), and the beds were incredibly comfortable- it was like waking my husband and son from the dead the next day. The curtain didn’t fully cover all the light from the window, but when we went to sleep the world around us disappeared
The bedding was stained, there was a lot of varied damage in the room (I’ve tried to be accountable for existing conditions at different places before)
I called and left voicemails 3 times over time after check in for assistance (traveling with a child changes your tolerance level), never got a response
But breakfast and checkout service (different person), were amazing
If it was husband and I on a one night 5 star rating- anything else 4 star but mostly because the ac and mattress are heaven adjacent"
"This was a very good place to stay...we had a 2BR/2BA on the third floor which was great to be high where the breeze was cooler than below! Nice to have table outside if you wanted to sit out. Three TVs so accommodated us all nicely. Nice towels, soaps & lotions. An easy walk to the beach with access to outdoor showers. Multiple pools. A few minor things I'd wish were different: the elevator access and elevators were stifling hot. Small wall Acs are ancient and while on 24/7 did nothing to cool the space. Master bath had the light and vent on one switch and this can be disturbing at night or other times. NO bar in the shower! Ice took a long time to make and I'd advise someone turn it on BEFORE a check-in. VERY challenging coffeemaker! You are expected to clean-up before leaving including taking the trash out. And finally, we left behind some books and while there was a great app ("I Left My Stuff") to manage the return, the staff communications were muddled and contradictory."
"If you plan to visit Oriental, you must stay at Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast! The innkeepers are so friendly and accommodating. They greeted me as I arrived and took me on a tour of the house explaining the available amenities. The house has a wrap around porch, perfect for relaxing in the evening (I stayed in August and was surprised by the mild evening temperature). I had to leave early morning and typically do not eat breakfast so they had breakfast bars and fruit available for me to grab and go. They also have a coffee and tea bar available 24/7 with snacks, wine, and beer. The entire house was beautifully decorated and the beds were so comfortable that once my head hit the pillow, I didn’t wake up until my alarm went off. I stayed in the Roe Suite and web pictures do not do it justice. It’s a large suite with two entrances, one leading directly to the room that has the drinks and snacks (very convenient). The sitting area has a large comfortable couch, tv, and bookshelves filled with books. The bath, with tiled floors, full-length mirror, large double sink counter space, separate shower and large tub, is as large as the bedroom! And I have to mention the location, right in the middle of town, walking distance to the waterfront, shops, and restaurants, and a short distance to the grocery store. The innkeepers have thought of everything including a welcome gift with chocolates and a package of Magnolia House coffee. I will definitely return."
