Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca showing a coastal town, a sandy beach and general coastal views

Relax on a quiet beach, enjoy high-end shopping at a picturesque marina or savor a low-key nightlife in this onetime fishing village, now a sophisticated resort.

Playa Blanca is a former fishing village that now offers a laidback experience of sophisticated resort living. Enjoy pristine beaches, gourmet restaurants, pretty marinas and an invigorating lifestyle that leaves you feeling recharged.

The surroundings of Playa Blanca are characteristically barren, with grey volcanic plains stretching away from the nearby Mount Roja (Red Mountain). Note the contrasts between this bare landscape and the exotic architecture of the town.

The resort is primarily a beach town. Its pristine white sands have earned the name Playa Blanca (White Beach). Join summer crowds and find a spot on the beach to relax, tan, swim or try windsurfing. If you would prefer a quieter experience, choose Playa Dorada or Playa Flamingo’s on either side of Playa Blanca.

Head to Marina Rubicon in the eastern end of the village for high-end shopping. Have a meal at a restaurant here and enjoy a gorgeous view of the yacht moorings while you dine. Visit on Wednesday or Saturday mornings to browse artisanal goods at a craft market.

East of Marina Rubicon, get a sense of the history of the district at Castillo de las Coloradas. This circular battlement was strategically located on the coast to defend against pirates in the 18th century.

In the evenings, find international cuisine along the main beach promenade and toward the centre of town. Even with its quiet character, Playa Blanca still offers a buzzing nightlife which begins after midnight and continues until the sun rises. Sing at karaoke bars or dance at nightclubs in the major party districts, Centro Comercial Papagayo and Centro Comercial Punta Limones.

Find Playa Blanca on Lanzarote's southern coast, in the Yaiza municipality. The beach is a 40-minute drive from Lanzarote's international airport and is served by bus routes. Alternatively, get there from the neighboring island of Fuerteventura, a 20-minute ferry ride away. Outside town, take an adventure to the unspoiled beaches along the Papagayo coast.
