Location and size were perfect. That’s it for anything good. In all our years of traveling we have never stayed in a filthier hotel. The putrid stairs and doormat were the first warning. Between the 2 beds was a clump of hair. Beside the bedhead was accumulated old dust. The shower had something unspecified on the drain. as I showered, my foot rubbed dirt off the floor. There was fluff in the loungeroom. With bare feet the floors felt dirty. There is no air conditioning, the 2 fans supplied were covered in old dust. The dehumidifier was broken. The walls are marked, we felt uncomfortable opening the stained doors to the fridge and cupboard. No sink plug or tea towel. No power adapter for the kettle. The key is difficult to open the door. I immediately reported the cleaning issues and received a reply saying sorry and asking for photos which I sent. And that was that. No further response. No cleaner. Nothing. For how glamorous Portofino is, this room should be removed from Hotels.com

This was a great place for my wife and I on our honeymoon. It was very special to be in the middle of the square. My only complaint was that the neighbors above were a bit noisy, but it didn’t inhibit our enjoyment. Note that there is no AC and no elevator to the room, but this was not a problem for us.

Beware

Horrible stay. The property owner says to no leave any food or drink out in their instructions. There is a reason for this…a major ant infestation. We followed the request, not knowing why, we didn’t have any food or drink but here came the ants anyway. Covering our clothing and bags. We nearly slept in the car the second night because of the heat and ants. No AC and you can’t leave the window open for a breeze or the mosquitoes will carry you away. I’m stunned Hotels.com would allow this property to be advertised on their website. This is my first bad review to leave but Portifino is to beautiful to ruin your stay at this apartment.
