Dear [Hotel Manager’s Name],
I am writing to formally request a full refund for the stay my friends and I experienced at PortoBay in Rio de Janeiro over the New Year holiday. Our visit, intended as a celebratory occasion, was severely disrupted by a series of unacceptable incidents and a lack of timely response from hotel staff.
On New Year’s Eve, we encountered a severe leak in our bathroom that resulted in water damage to our personal belongings, including my hair styling tools, which were ruined. More alarmingly, the slippery conditions caused one of my friends to slip and suffer a cut, resulting in visible blood on the wall and requiring immediate attention.
Despite our urgent call to the front desk, it took approximately 45 minutes for hotel staff to respond. A maintenance worker then spent over an hour in our bathroom addressing the issue, which made it impossible for us to prepare for the New Year’s Eve dinner event at the Copacabana Palace—an event for which we had purchased tickets costing $1,200 USD each. Missing this event completely ruined our New Year’s celebration.
We were assured at the time that management would contact us promptly to resolve these issues. However, as of today, January 9th, we have received no communication whatsoever. In addition to the disruption and property damage, the room developed a strong mildew and mold smell due to the leak, creating an unpleasant and unhealthy environment
