Severely overpriced. Stuffy room with smelly blankets. No way to air it out. Shower drain stopped up with previous guests' hair and that flooded the bathroom. The code for the pool didn't work and I had to call the mgt. for the new one. The corkscrew/bottle opener was broken. Over four nights there was no housekeeping. The "pool" is too small to do anything more than sit. Decor ugly. We had to keep calling for enough coffee pods.

We booked a 4-night stay at Calizo VIP Guest House, but only stayed 1 night because the conditions were unacceptable. The room was essentially a basement space — very damp, with visible condensation on the walls and a strong musty odor. I sent the owner photos showing what appeared to be mold and the excessive moisture, but we did not receive any refund directly from the property. The only refund we received was through Expedia. The environment felt unhealthy and uncomfortable, and we were unable to sleep due to the smell and dampness. We ended up relocating at our own expense to El Conquistador Resort, which was absolutely 1000x better — clean, properly ventilated, and exactly what we expected from a vacation stay. It is very disappointing that this property is labeled “VIP” on Expedia. Based on our experience, that designation is misleading. I would strongly encourage future travelers to ask detailed questions about the specific room location and ventilation before booking.

The hotel was beautiful. It felt like a house along the streets of old San Juan. The room was super clean and nicely decorated. Beds were super comfortable. Great pool area. Def a great location close to the beach.

Well located within walking distance to the beach and the Estacion restaurant. Rooms are very clean, with slightly weird but harmless modern decor. There's a nice courtyard and a small pool. Rooms vary, but ours had two porches, one overlooking the pool and one overlooking the garden/patio area. Pay attention to the check in procedure, there is no desk onsite, you need to give them a card for incidentals ahead of time and then they send an entry code.

Lots of amenities were not up to par: coffee machine was dirty, bathroom soap was not coming properly, lots of mosquitoes, toilet was not properly connected to the floor causing it to shake. Room was congested and smaller than expected, so be aware. Also, if booking via hotels.com make sure to refresh the page to ensure it is correct listing as it said there was kitchen at first but not when viewing later. Decorations and snacks were nice however.

Calizo is so beautiful! It felt safe as most didnt know, or would drive by the locked entrance lol. The pool/jacuzzi area is gorgeous, especially at night. The courtyard was always clean and the vibrant colors just make it pop. Definitely a cute spot for a couples and families. The host answered text messages so quickly and was super nice. Make sure to answer the initial text right away, to avoid confusion. The staff we encountered were very nice as well and welcoming. And the restaurant connected next door Kalizo, .. aww man. Amazing. Steak was perfect, calamari; perfect, rice; perfect.

Treated Like a Criminal – Terrible Guest Experience I would not recommend this property to anyone. From the beginning, the experience was uncomfortable and disrespectful. Check-in is listed as 4:00 PM for all guests, I was the only guest given the room access code at 4:00 PM. Every other guest was given access at 3:00pm. I explained that I had a baby with me, but they refused to accommodate or even show basic understanding. Once inside the room, we discovered only two towels, even though the reservation was for four people and they have a pool. The next day, I received a message from the administration accusing me of bringing unauthorized guests — complete with surveillance photos. This was incredibly invasive and upsetting. At the time, my wife and two kids were visiting her mother. I briefly returned to the room with my daughter and her boyfriend so I could shower, since we hadn’t been given enough towels. We were about to leave again when I was essentially scolded like a child. I rented the room for four people. I should be allowed to decide who those four people are — whether by the hour or the day — as long as I stay within that limit. The tone and manner of communication from management made me feel more like a suspect than a paying guest. This is not how you treat tourists. Avoid this place if you value respectful service and basic hospitality.
