It was cheap, perfectly located and very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we managed to get a space in the car park which was a bonus, although there is on-street parking nearby. It’s dated and some of the fixtures and fittings are cheap and a bit worse for wear. That is all reflected in the price though, and the place is exceptionally clean and comfortable. We also had a lovely big room with lovely views over the South Bay and the town. If you want luxury, don’t come here - it’s a hotel catering for the over-60’s coach trip client, with bingo or other entertainment on an evening. Breakfast is OK although a bit cramped and the heating was on in the dining room in August, so it was rather warm. There’s also no proper coffee - you get a flask of hot water with Nescafé sachets - but the bacon and sausages were of good quality and the service was good. It was fine for one night and is in a great location.

From the moment we arrived at The Esplanade Hotel, we felt embraced by its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Perched on Paignton’s famous seafront, the hotel offers stunning panoramic views of Tor Bay—best enjoyed from the elegant lounge or the comfort of a sea-facing room. Our room was impeccably clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated in coastal hues. Soft linens, thoughtful amenities, and blackout curtains guaranteed a restful night’s sleep, while the private balcony became our go-to spot for morning coffee and golden sunrise vistas. Service here is nothing short of outstanding. Every team member—from reception to housekeeping and the bar—greeted us with genuine smiles and took the time to anticipate our needs. Special dietary requests at breakfast were handled swiftly, and the full Devonshire spread (local sausages, freshly baked pastries, and home-made marmalade) set us up perfectly for beach walks and town explorations. The hotel’s on-site brasserie serves modern British cuisine that cleverly showcases regional produce. We savored beautifully presented dishes—like seared scallops and Devon lamb—paired with a carefully curated wine list. After dinner, the bar’s live piano sessions struck just the right note for a relaxed evening. Location couldn’t be more ideal: direct beach access, a short stroll to Paignton Pier, and easy links to the steam railway and coastal trail. Employés vraiment souriants et accueillants. Hôtel désuet, en rénovations mais vraiment en décrépitude. Chambre supérieure non conforme aux photos. Impossible de voir la vue sur la mer comme annoncé car la fenêtre est en décrépitude et la vitre opaque. Télévision non fonctionnel. Plafonds ouverts. Ne vaut pas le prix du tout. Literies neuve et propre. Hôtel avec potentiel mais non actuel et vraiment tombé en ruines.

We have stayed in this hotel several times years ago. It is very outdated however the staff service is excellent, it' has friendly clientele and the views to Scarborough harbour are amazing

Room was small but adequate, but the amazing views from both windows certainly made up for it. Room was not dirty but lots of old cobwebs hanging from ceiling and fluffy dust on lights. Beds were a bit uncomfortable due to thin mattresses (maybe time to replace with better quality). Bathroom was clean but a little cramped. But ........ Despite the somewhat negative comments, we will definitely return to this hotel as we really enjoyed our stay. The stay was made all the better for the attentiveness of the staff who were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.

The staff were friendly and helpful but the bathroom was in a very bad condition. The towels and bedding was all clean but the hotel has definitely seen better days.

Check-in was fine. We were booked on a B&B basis via Expedia . This was confirmed on check-in but was later challenged by the second receptionist . Expedia had not confirmed the breakfast option. All was ok in the end. The hotel was well located and such an easy walk to the seafront or into the main town. A basic room with all that we needed for our two night stay. I would stay again for the location.

Disgusting hotel do not stay

Disgusting substandard room, ceiling water damaged and coming down, bath panel hanging off, wardrobe falling apart, table leg held together with masking tape, room smelling, nothing like photos, refused room, assistant manager victoria after contacting manager jo promised us a refund if we were not satisfied with room if we did not stay, which we did, 3 days later money has been taken from account, it shows you what sort of people are in charge of this run down building

Me and my daughter stayed for 1 night, it’s overall a really nice hotel to stay at if your in Scarborough. The only thing we didn’t like was the walk from Scarborough seafront to the hotel, its a little to much for a 3yr olds little legs and didn’t realise you could walk over the bridge to get esplanade’s so unfortunately took the long way around. But other than that the overall stay was great staff was really friendly and you get what you pay for.

All good. Very happy with my stay. Cgeck in quick and easy. Late checkout discussed and happy with the 12 oclock offer. Comfortable hotel. Bathroom could do with an update but it was fine for a quick one night stop over. Brilliant sea view. Friendly staff.
