I travelled around 300 miles from the south of England, while my elderly parents travelled from the north so we could meet there for a family break. "The property was good, upside down property, set in a lovely harbour town. Locals friendly. Amazing ice cream shop. The attached fish and chip shop was very busy too. Parking was roadside, not guaranteed, opposite the property. We arrived at the end of the Herring Queen Festival, which was packed out. We struggled to even unload, but obviously that wasn't something we knew about prior to booking. After that had finished, parking wasn't really a problem. A few niggles with property but it didn't...

"Outstanding and caring staff optimised our stay. Gorgeous food and it was great to chat with the owner. Suggest an EV charge point for guests would be an enhancement. There was a commercial point just a couple of miles away in town, but being able to charge overnight would save time in our day and make sure we were ready to travel around visiting the region. Only minor inconvenience was the shower: needing to be handheld is not a ‘luxury’ feature as listed - if they could be properly wall mounted, it would be perfect."

"This was a perfect place to stay as a stopover for going to Edinburgh university open day. The family room we had was clean and tidy. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was well priced and delicious. We used the disabled parking space right outside the hotel so didn’t see the main car park. When booking I didn’t check for a lift this was ok for me but all bedrooms are upstairs."

"A lovely traditional hotel set in a beautiful part of the Borders with magnificent grounds through which the River Tweed flows. Traditional lounge with comfortable and large settees and chairs. Food was excellent with very helpful and friendly staff. Beds were very comfortable and big enough for a good stretch! Bathrooms were a bit tired with a rather weak over-bath shower. Plenty of hot water though. Underfloor heating in the bathroom was a great bonus. For its magnificent setting, fantastic food and very friendly and helpful staff, I would definitely go back for another stay."

"I had booked a twin room for 3 nights via Hotels.com. and the image on the website did not represent the room allocated to us. The room we were allocated was a very small twin room with the beds tightly next to each other looking like a double bed, with insufficient space to walk around each bed. This was not acceptable. The one bedside table provided had to be moved to another part of the room, which made the room very cramped indeed. We requested a proper twin room with beds a good distance apart. We were told they were all taken due to a wedding but that we could be moved the next morning. We also discovered overnight that the mattresses in the room were totally worn out and inadequate and went nearly flat when trying to sleep. You could feel every single coil in the mattress which meant we had a very poor nights sleep. The mattresses should have been replaced long ago. We were moved to another twin room the next morning and the manager apologised profusely for any inconvenience. This room was exactly what we had been expecting and the mattresses were really deep and seemed brand new. We enjoyed the rest of the stay including a swim in the swimming pool. The staff were extremely helpful and obliging at all times. The dinner on the first night was good and the breakfasts excellent."

"Pet friendly hotel and cottages. Plenty of areas to walk around the grounds. In the hotel there is a pet friendly bar and restaurant area. The clubhouse has food too. There is a small shop, lovely pastries. The only issue is no welcome pack with a map of the grounds, how to work the hob, cooker and heating. Even the staff didn’t know how to work the heaters! One out of three worked after a google search. However this will not stop us going back. Staff were friendly and helpful."
