"There is simply no better place to stay in San Antonio near - practically on - the Riverwalk. The rooms at Hotel Contessa are spacious, modern and clean. All the usual amenities are available plus extras like luxury beddings. Our room came with a fantastic view of the river above marriage island. At night the little boats floated past with colored lights making it a peaceful and pleasant visual treat. By far and away the best part of this superb hotel were the people who delivered over the top service, friendliness and professionalism. From the front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant staff all were way above average. But the group that was absolutely world class - as in I've never experienced this level of service from this part of a hotel was the Valet team. These fine men would hustle back and forth getting our car and do so the moment they saw us walk out the door. They were friendly, efficient and ran like a well oiled machine. When we had questions on directions they went out of their way to make sure we knew where we were going. Our rental car was kept spotless inside and out and everyone of them never hestitated to help with a bag or luggage. A finer group of people in this line of hospitality work you will not find anywhere. To top it all off the rate we paid was slightly less than hotels that did not have as good a location or spacious rooms offered at the Contessa. Without a doubt we will always stay here on future trips to San Antonio "

"The only issue I had was that the phone in the room was not working, I discovered this when I tried calling the front desk because my thermostat it the room had stopped working, because it needed new batteries. They came and fixed the thermostat...and attempted to repair the phone, but I didn't need it anyway...but overall great hotel...thank you"

"I definitely like the location its just in the heart of Riverwalk, a little noisy but its understandable for summer vacation and kids, the only thing is because it has not free breakfast is more expensive that other good hotels, other than that we fully recommend it."

"The room and bathroom were a good size. The bedding was comfortable. The bathroom was clean but the shower nozzles were a little confusing and we kept getting random bursts of cold and hot water. Our only window faced the inside of the hotel. While the shutters provided good blockage of the light I would have preferred drapes. The lights stay on in the lobby all night so we did have some light coming in. Also we weren’t aware that valet was our only option, so that was disappointing. The front desk was friendly and you can’t beat the location."

"The hotel itself was nice, comfortable, and well-kept; however they were understaffed or maybe that just their usual. Towels and bedding (eg..blanket for the sofa I had to sleep on because I received a room with only a sofa, not a sleeper). After finally getting a blanket the second day, I slept comfortable on it. The towel situation never got any better. There was always a shortage of towels from the first day. Our toilet stopped up twice. The second time, there was no one on duty to come to unstop it, but I was told I could come down and get the plunger to do it myself. I had the know-how, so it was quick and no problem. Overall, the hotel was nice with the exception of a very slow elevator, and towel shortage."
