Basic rooms, clean beds and towels, big tv screens. Opposite the train station, 10 min walk to the centre. Staff not overly helpful, no staff stood out to make my stay feel any better, one staff member seemed dismissive. Good communication in ensuring guests don't get a parking fine using the bus lanes in the centre.

Clean room very quite had no problem parking although we probably got a penalty driving through a restricted bus lane which there are no signs so be careful when finding the hotel and plan the route because we had trouble finding the place.

The room was relatively clean, the staff were really helpful, especially with guidance on how to access the hotel due to buss restrictions. The Tav didn't work but it wasn't a problem for the stay, but the staff tried to solve the issue but with no luck. Overall a pleasant stay.

Please ignore any historical reviews about the hotel and its previous need of modernisation. The hotel has had a complete refit - in fact I was speaking to a hotel maintenance employee, he said that the floor I was staying on had quite literally had a refit the previous week! Good value for money, and literally next door to Stoke on Trent railway station (It's the old station hotel) I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Hotel has recently reopened so there’s bound to be some snagging. No bin in room or bathroom, no towel rail, part of door jarm not painted. No staff to be seen at breakfast and went to reception to ask for eggs as none left. Staff on reception were helpful and apologised. The bedding and bathroom was clean and staff told me that the hotel has been fully refurbished. The dining room and hotel has an elegant but cosy feel.

Interior has been done really well, in keeping with the grade 2 listing. Overnight stop or max 2 days stay ok. Otherwise it's a bit basic. I did not like how run down the outside was. Pipes looking ancient and covered in bird poo and close to air conditioning unit is concerning. Some of the sash windows need replacing. Parking is £7 a night but not run by hotel but quite a bit for this. Car park at rear needs the seating revisited as the furniture is falling apart, should be somewhere you can sit outside for a drink. It was card only and think that should be reviewed as there are still people without cards, You should allow card or cash. It says food not available in the evening but it was! They need to update their website, I'd made do with a sarnie and could have had something hot. I had room only as I don't eat breakfast. Staff were really nice especially the barman. As a solo traveller I meet some other lovely people staying there so enjoyed their company with a pint.

Great value overnight stay

I had a decent stay, clean and comfortable room, excellent service from hotel staff. Yes the hotel is worn and in need of a lick of paint and some tlc etc, but I feel this is well reflected in the price. Would stay again if I’m the area, nice breakfast. I was expecting a lot worse based on the reviews, which I didn’t find to be the case in the main.

Rooms are basic and small, its ok if just want room to put your head down. Rooms could do with some basic upgrading to help make them look more modern Shower was good, very powerful but if your short there is struggle actually to climb into the bath to get under shower as side part of bath is quite wide Staff very friendly and helpful. Avoid like the plague,

Stayed while taking my son to University, a very tired looking hotel, that needs some love and attention, the communal areas are dire, wall paper peeling and plaster blown, strong smell of cleaning products so overpowering that had to keep the window open all night, room was big and the bed was comfortable which was the only plus of the stay, the location is great, but the hotel just need a complete refurbishment to bring it back to what coould be an amazing hotel, such a shame

Hotel is very run down and needs a complete overhaul. Although clean the bathroom was in terrible state even with bare earth wires on the towel rail and very cramped. The bedroom was outdated and very small to the point you couldn't open the drawers fully due to the bed. Definitely would not return here.

Overwhelmingly ok.

The furniture is pretty old but it's all nice and clean. The pillows are very hard. Parking was easy. Hotel staff seemed friendly. The walls are quite thin so if neighbours are a bit loud you'll be hearing them. The free lobby wifi is good just a bit slow. The shower is nice. The toilets were clean. Complimentary soaps, coffee and tea is nice. Id say that this stay was great value for money and I'd definitely stay here again. My one big complaint being the pillows, but I didnt contact the hotel staff, so there may be softer ones available.

Lift was out of order and main light in room was not working. Staff were very polite and smartly dressed. The building is charming but would benefit from a little TLC. The room itself was very clean with a well stocked hospitality tray. There was virtually no noise from outside which meant a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom could do with a handrail to assist with getting in and out of the shower. Could also do with more parking spaces for disabled guests near reception. This was a single night stay and was in a handy location close to the university.

We arrived at this wonderful building to be met by a smiling receptionist who was friendly helpful and had a decent sense of humor. The hotel is situated right opposite the wonderful train station and is itself a wonderful brick building i believe from the early 1600 era. The hotel is not of a bad standard for it price rating which is relatively cheap in comparison to some of the other hotels that where available on the day we where in the area. The issue we had with the room was that it had hot pipes running thru the room and when the windows where shut it caused the room to become like a sauna and we were unable to sleep. The windows where open when we entered the room and the room was still hot but as the room was on the same level as the large flat roof i didn't feel safe leaving the windows open while we slept.

Awful, dirty, wouldn’t recommend to anyone!

Not a very warm welcome, person on the desk was abrupt and just wanted us out of the way when he finally got around to checking us in. Went to the room, was appalled at the state of it! Old, run down, dirty, smelly and just felt unsafe! The bed had an old brown mattress that you felt every spring of, there was a table with a kettle - no where near a plug socket so couldn’t use without being right next to the tv on an unsteady table. Floor boards that moved completely when you stood on them - felt as though you could go through them at any point. The window was being held open by one of the towels which was stained and wet! The window was mouldy and they had a car air freshener to keep it from smelling even worse. The bathroom was disgusting. The toilet was super cramped, toilet roll holder broken, open bin for Sanitary products. The shower was not even a metre by a metre and had a dirty shower curtain held up with mastic - poorly done as well! The bathroom sink was on the outside of the bathroom right next to the tv stand. It was all very cramped and dinghy! Would not recommend to anyone! Looks nothing like the pictures provided by the site or the actual hotel itself! We were given one set of towels between two of us and they were dirty. Asked for more and it seemed as though we were causing an inconvenience to them by asking for more.

This hotel has no air conditioning, which made my room like a sauna, the shower was really weak, they also charge for parking. The breakfast was decent, as we're the staff. Overall a dated building that has had a bit of a makeover, but no air conditioning on a hot day/night I would not stay here.
