Lovely room, wood panelled off a timber verandah. John and his wife were great hosts. Netflix was a great bonus. Recommend the steaks in Barrel and Blues.
We wish that we would have had time to stay longer than only one night.
We really felt welcomed (especially by the two Golden Retrievers), the room was nice, clean and included everything we needed for the night. Cooked breakfast in the morning was a really nice surprise.
A really interesting combination with the plant nursery, thank you for showing us around in the world of aloes.
Hotel is built in a traditional Swiss-style chalet architecture, with lacquered wood-beam construction throughout. My 2nd floor room had a high vaulted ceiling, which added to the spacious, airy feeling of the place. Considering the nightly cost, I was positively surprised at the overall vibe of this place. Private, safe (gated, remote parking for your car), and clean. If I roadtrip again through the Western Cape, will make this my overnight again.
The hotel is clean comfortable with a friendly staff and secure, free parking.
The town doesn’t have a lot to offer but if you’re staying in the area I’d recommend this place.

Quaint place to stay.
Stunning place, good value. We stayed in a new unit, so some issues were experienced.... We struggled to lock the door, the leg of the one single bed was skew which made for a scary night sleep. The instant coffee provided was old and congealed. The advertised pool was only a very small splash pool. However the staff were friendly and the place was spotlessly clean. The ambience was old style Cape Dutch which fits with the town. The room was big enough to be comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed.
After our month-long trip to South Africa, this hotel offered the most comfortable nights sleep with a lovely view of the mountains out our window. The grounds are well maintained and quiet, the cooking facilities were clean and complete, and the accommodation was comfortable. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Swellendam!
I was very disappointed with our overnight stay. The hostess made us feel welcome. This guesthouse is situated in an awesome setting, however, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to non white guests. My 3 companions are coloured and were made to feel most unwelcome by an Afrikaner couple who'd arrived after we had already checked in. To add insult to injury, the 4 of us had no choice but to watch the rugby games on a small TV in the 1 bedroom simply because this low class couple had taken over the lounge. If you're a light sleeper, I wouldn't recommend staying over on a Saturday night. The locals' start their church services at 4 am on a Sunday morning. The singing continues for about 2 hours, non stop. I kid you not!
