The hotel is a bit older but rooms are spacious and comfortable. During our stay, the only elevator was out of service for maintenance, which changed our plans quite a bit - this should be shown during booking already and not only last minute. Breakfast was a big disappointment. Barely any choices for vegetarians, and dishes were overcooked. We decided to skip breakfast in the end. The area might not look great at first, but there are some restaurants and a market nearby, so it turned out to be a good location. Next MRT station is about 5-10 minutes walk away.

The hotel has an excellent location, close to restaurants, market and subway. We always enjoy walking the nearby streets. Rooms are comfortable and of good size. Staff friendly and responsive. What more could you ask from a well-priced, well-run hotel?

Really enjoyed my stay at The Retro. It’s a small hotel but the interior is modern and well designed. The staff at the front desk were friendly. There is a small cafe/eating area on the first floor, where they serve breakfast, which is included in the stay. The check-in process was smooth, but you can’t get a room till 3 so they will store your luggage for you if you check in ahead of time. It was a comfortable stay, and they do provide things like slippers, toothbrushes, water, snacks, etc complementary. It’s very walkable and there is a ton of good food nearby. My only complaints are that 1) the walls are a little thin and I kept hearing people opening and closing the door to the staircase, even deep into the night; it was so loud it sounded like they were opening my door; and 2) they don’t have a bolt on the door, only the door lock.

The room was spacious but the bathtub had long hair in it; although we never used it, it was not clean. Bathroom had a step up and it was a bit hard to get used to. Wooden Hangers were worn out and the room was a bit outdated in decor. The bed was firm, pillows sucked- too soft. Toilet paper was hard to reach and flushing toilet was a bit difficult. You have to push in to the button. Bkfst was the same with about 2/3 items changing. The are surrounding it was a bit old. Convenient near station dongmen. The staff was very friendly. One of them made sure I had bkfst to go - she provided bread, crescent and rolls with butter and jam. I reminded another staff member about bkfst to go and she called my room and said they don’t provide. There is inconsistency with staff training. We stayed for 8 days 7 nights and after day 2/3 they asked each time if we wanted our rooms cleaned. Only 2 towels to each room with hand towels no washcloth. Provided toothbrush, comb, shower cap, q tip and dental floss / sword- don’t use it. The floss is cheap and it would get stuck in between my teeth and difficult to remove. They provide two bottles of water complimentary daily and on arrival day small basket with 1 bag of chips and 1 bag of cracker.

The staff was excellent and very helpful like the last few times we stayed before covid. The room is always clean. The breakfast has changed. The surrounding area changed too with Din Tai Fung restaurant almost impossible to get into without a two or more hour wait at their new location a few block down from their old original location.

Could not turn off lights in the living room when sleeping at night due to entry card also needed to power the AC unit. Appreciate the staff attempting to fix the fridge, but it was still not functional to keep food/beverage adequately cold…basically, the fridge was not useful during our three nights stay. Breakfast was really good with some new items served hourly and for each day, reasonable time frame (7-10AM).

Rooms are big, but many of the amenities they advertise and confirmed to me in an email are not operational—- business center was closed and used as a storage room; gym lacks any weight training equip. Also the windows and walls are not fully sound proofed. Crying child next door and some traffic noise woke me up. The beds are very hard. Bathroom smelled like urine. I guess that is why their price is fairly low.

All the staff are very friendly . They did the best to service the customers. The location is wonderful, it closes to famous food street. The room temperature can’t be adjusted, it can be very cold . It depends on the floor you stay.

Royal Biz Hotel Stay
Room felt dark and lighting was not bright. Had problems with adjusting the temperature with A/C vent blowing directly at bed. Got called and felt rushed to checkout even though it was 10:45 AM. Checkout was at 11:00 AM. Breakfast quality below other hotels in the same price range. Would stay at another hotel for my next visit.

This hotel is nearest to Dongmen MRT station, which is a less than 10 minutes walk from Exit 1. The nearby area had a good selection of local food shops including food vendors at the Dongmen day market and 7/11 stores for convenience. Hotel amenities were plentiful with professional and attentive staff. Never had an issue with requesting for services like replenishing water bottles. Breakfast was good, and had a collection of Western Continental and Taiwanese food. We very much enjoyed the clean and modern bathroom -- great water from rain shower head. Loved the full bathtub and bidet. The only issue we had was that the room smelled of cigarette smoke for 2 days of our stay (seemed to come from the ventilation). Also remember to pack conditioner and body lotion as those are not provided by the facilities. All in all, great facilities for the value, good location and fully recommend. Would book again!
