"Sehr leckeres Abendessen mit Guacamole, Quinoasuppe und Hauptgang (Vegetarisch, Hühnchen oder Alpaka). Frühstück (leckere Pfannkuchen mit Bananen sowie Avocado mit Brot) bekamen wir schon um 05:45 Uhr, sodass wir früh zu unserem Aufstieg nach Cabanaconde starten konnten. Auch nochmal eine Decke zum Schlafen war gar kein Problem. Gerne wieder!"

"Our room was fastidiously clean and kept tidy. Staff was amazing and made sure all our needs were met, and went out of their way to make us welcome. The bed and pillows were comfortable. "The worst “hotel” imaginable. Staff have no idea what they’re doing. No wifi (i mean who needs wifi). I was told to be ready at 6 am sharp for transport to the city. It never came. The hotel reception said that in Peru when we say 6 am we really mean 7 am. Unbelievable. I only woke up at 5 am and was there 15 minutes early. I had to hitch a ride with another couple’s driver (pure luck) to get to the city, My driver is still probably on his way. The worst part is in my haste I left behind my hat....

Tapay is a small village in the Colca Canyon, 2900 metres above sea level. Most organised treks don't include a visit here, so if you really want to get off the beaten track, come to Tapay. Its elevation affords some stunning views across the surrounding countryside, and if you arrive mid-afternoon (as we did) it is unlikely you will see any other locals here, let alone other tourists. Rustic, authentic, isolated, and beautifully peaceful, Tapay can easily be visited in a 2-day self-guided trek from Cabanaconde.
