The Globe Inn
10/10 Excellent
"The Globe is a lovely old inn and the floors and walls were all quirky and a little wonky - all part of it's charm. I had a lovely bright room with a wide windowsill overlooking the main street. The adjoining wet room had everything I needed - including fluffy white towels. I had 2 wonderful nights' sleep in a comfy bed with fresh white - good quality - linen. The staff were friendly and genuinely helpful. They helped me with my bags - even carrying them out to the car for me (I am disabled) without being prompted. The public car park was across the main street with lots of spaces - and compared to my own home town was cheap. I will be back to explore the area further."

Cockhaven Arms
10/10 Excellent
"Despite living in the village 50yrs ago, going to the primary school and getting married at the local church 21 yrs ago, even playing for the village football club in the 90’s, I’d never set foot in the Cockhaven Manor Hotel before. So booking it for our 21st wedding anniversary break was a choice well made. The staff are so friendly and helpful, from helping with our potential late arrival on a Thursday evening, to adding an extra night because we enjoyed it so much, they couldn’t have been more accommodating ! The room we had was beautifully laid out with a lovely en-suite, an amazing shower and plenty of room for our dog crate ! They really are so helpful and accepting of their dog guests with no extra charge ! The included breakfast menu is top quality, with so much to choose from and a delight to come down too ! We decided to dine there on one of our three evenings and I have to say the evening menu is just as lovely. Again with so much to choose from and great value for money. The fresh bread and oils pre starter , the best we’ve ever had ! The views from the conservatory to the hills and in our room a view to the river just add to the charm of this beautifully kept little gem. The bar area kept to the old style pub feel, just real cosy and inviting, we loved it ! If life allows , we’d look no further than the Cockhaven for any future visits back to the village of my very young life. One of our nicest weekends away ! Thank you ALL at the Cockhaven !🙏"

Kings Arms Inn
10/10 Excellent
"The Kings Arms is a lovely old pub with wonky beams and floor, but that just adds to the character of the place. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Evening meal was absolutely scrumptious! The only downside is that it's next to the main street running throught the village, but this was remedied by using a good set of ear plugs at bedtime!"

The Cliffden Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"A very pleasant 5 nights spent in this lovely hotel in excellent surroundings. The large garden has a gate with keypad for guests to use to access the town / beach area which makes a much more pleasant 15 minute walk to town than by road. OK it's uphill on the way back but in such lovely surroundings who cares! There are bus stops outside the entrance with direct buses to Exeter via Dawlish, and Newton Abbot via Torquay (no. 2 and 11 respectively, noting that the 11 doesn't pass the hotel on the way back from Torquay). The station is about 10 minutes walk away but we used a taxi, noting that there didn't appear to be a rank at the station but a short walk way near Wetherspoons. No Uber! There's a bar and terrace, also a restaurant we didn't use, apart from the included buffet breakfast. The latter was adequate with all the usual fare and you could ask for vegan sausages and poached or fried eggs to order. We didn't use the pool which is quite shallow and I did spot a room with a pool table. It is a dog friendly hotel which may deter some but not us. Because of the design some of the corridors do have slight slopes which can catch you unawares. If using the seating in the garden be aware they are not always clean due to the plentiful bird life! Staff were very friendly and courteous throughout. Rooms are cleaned "as required" if you put the hangar on the door. Check in is fairly late by hotel standards (16:00) but you can leave bags with reception. Thoroughly recommended!"
