Set on a hilltop in the town of Amer (sometimes spelled Amber) is Amber Fort, one of India’s most majestic forts. Walk through lavishly decorated halls and courtyards, spot centuries-old artwork, admire temples and enjoy views of a picturesque lake and garden. The fort was commissioned by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and has had several renovations over the centuries.

One of many temples and palaces dotted across the dusty Avaralli hills, Nahargargh Fort not only offers insight into the lives of the old Rajasthan royals, but it also has incredible vistas of the pink stone buildings of Jaipur. Spend the afternoon exploring the regal chambers and the evening admiring the impressive views as the sun sets over the city below.

Marvel at the opulent home of Jaipur's royal family at the City Palace. This sprawling complex features striking gates, pleasing courtyards and a series of segregated exhibits that make up part of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum.

With its unique setting in the middle of a lake and the attractive backdrop of the temple-dotted Aravalli hills, Jal Mahal is particularly photogenic. Visitors on the way to the nearby Amber Fort stop here to take photos of the palace from the lake’s edge. Time your trip for dusk when the scene is at its most beautiful, as the setting sun casts an amber glow on the glistening water and on the palace’s stone walls.

Follow the sounds of hawkers and grinding stones in central Jaipur and you're sure to find yourself in the lively Johri Bazaar. This crowded market is popular among locals and tourists alike for its ornamental designs, both in textiles and jewelry.

Situated at the foot of a hilltop fort is Birla Temple, a white marble sanctuary surrounded by green gardens. The beautiful building is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the goddess Lakshmi and features carvings, reliefs and statues of the two deities and other gods.
