The northern lights.
These Huldufolk (Iceland's hidden people) must have decided to come out of hiding the day we toured Akurey. Some polls suggest that upwards of fifty percent of Icelanders believe in Huldufolk, otherwise known as elves and/or trolls. Four Icelandic holidays are devoted to celebrating Huldufolk. Their presence is plentiful in Icelandic sagas, particularly given the rugged and rocky nature of this beautiful island. Check out my run-in with Iceland's elves at my blog via this link: http://www.aplacecalledroam.com/home/an-icelandic-saga-elves-trolls-trouble
