Beautiful hibiscus flowers on the grounds of this Amazon Eco lodge.
Stephanotis in full bloom all around the well-manicured grounds of the lodge.
Enjoy a unique perspective from this network of towers, bridges and platforms suspended 100ft (30 m) above the forest floor. The flora and fauna are different up here, and if you're lucky you might see eye-to-eye with a toucan, woodpecker or trogon.
This toucan was being rehabilitated by the lodge staff. He hung out around the dining hall, hopping after anyone who might have food. When he caught up he gave a peck at your leg, and though he never broke skin the peck from his bill was quite unpleasant. Regardless, it was quite entertaining - how often do you get to interact with a toucan!
This great little ecolodge makes for a nice 3-4 day side trip if you are visiting Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Fly into Puerto Maldonado and from there it's a 45min boat ride down the Madre de Dios River (an Amazon River tributary).

Our cabana was quite comfy, especially so considering we were in the Amazon Jungle. A limited (and sketchy) power supply made charging batteries tricky, but it all worked out. Sun-warmed-water for showers also worked out given the high humidity and warm afternoons. The food was more than decent and the daily excursions were lots of fun. Be sure to bring plenty of mosquito spray and always wear closed-toed shoes in the grass!
