When you are interested in military history, the fortresses of the defense line of Amsterdam are a must see. Build around 1900, it consists of some 46 fortresseses, batteries, dikes, dams and locks. The enemy was partly kept out by inundating the land outside the defense line. The invention of the airplane was a real spoiler for military strategists... Once the home of the duck hunter, now used to explain how the nearby duck decoy once worked - the English word originates from the Dutch word “eendenkooi”. Still has a few ducks left, the lucky kind. Hilversum

This Windmill in Aboude Netherlands has been converted to a an amazing three bedroom Air B and B rental. We had the pure joy of staying 2 nights in it in April. The countryside around it is beautiful farmland and a small canal runs right across the small road from it. You can walk or bike to Abcode about 1 mile off and more then anything just relax and enjoy staying in such an amazing place.
