"We came over from Germany and having lived in the NorthEast a few years back we know about living in England. This is a well made up hotel inside a very old (probably listed) building hence has it charming quirks while coming across modern. Room clean, tea&coffee with bikkies on offer, bathroom well done (the usual damp spots, loose screws and peeled painting spots or painted shut windows give it the “character” we know, but it’s clean and has a mix tap over the sink AND bathtub/shower!)
Breakfast was continental on a table guests needed to ask for refills quite a bit, but it came promptly. Ordered breakfast (full english or pancakes or scrambled egg & bread) was filling!
The long weekend wasn’t cheap but we were on holiday and not on an english salary for foreigners anymore so could afford it these days!
All in all we stayed 3 nights as a family of 3 and ate in the restaurant 2 evenings too which was a nice both times. Staff all friendly!"
