"The staff at the Hotel were excellent. Everyone was friendly and eager to help. The hotel is nice and quiet if that is what you are looking for.
Like many NYC hotels, the Beacon is old. The hallways are dark and uninviting and have an old musty smell. Although we were in a one-bedroom suite, the bathroom was very cramped and the toilet and sink are placed very low. The appliances in the kitchenette were old. We did find a small dead roach one day in the kitchenette.
There are few amenities. No water available at the front desk or in your room. No coffee, no market in-house or a place to buy anything. One must go across the street to the (excellent) Fairway market and out of the hotel to get coffee. You must ask for a shower cap if you want one. With all of that said, there is not much to choose from on the Upper West Side.
The fitness room is small and there is no room to lay down and stretch and no excercise balls and the like available."
