"GREAT job on renovations for this older building! The bathroom had a modern shower stall, new flooring through the entire room, comfy mattresses & pillows w/ bright white bedding, & everything smelled clean & fresh. Excellent room with all my needs met; WAY better than I expected at such an affordable price. Based on just THAT, I would've given it 5 stars.
However, there was one big hiccup with check-in, though I'm hoping it isn't a "usual" occurrence. I arrived at 6:50, way past the 3PM check-in stated on my Hotels.com confirmation & the hotel's website. I was told my room wouldn't be ready for another hour because someone from housekeeping was late to work that day, causing ALL room preparations to fall behind schedule. Fine; no problem. I grabbed dinner & came back. No room yet. Two hours...no room. By the third hour, the desk manager starts cancelling reservations of people who haven't arrived yet. I'm not sure who owns &/or manages the property day-to-day, but I should think they'd have a better back-up plan when someone doesn't show up to work on time.
I finally got into my room shortly after 10 PM. The ONE housekeeping person - who was hustling to do everything himself - apologized profusely as he completed mopping the floor & backed out of my room.
I can't be mad at the staff that WAS there because of their colleague's lack of responsibility. I hate to think of the negative reviews this hotel will receive due to the fallout from one person pulling a no-show for work."
