"We had a wonderful stay at the Golden Fleece, it surpassed our expectations. Ample parking, free, at the rear of the hotel, we were warmly welcomed and our room, if it was a standard room (Number 5) was welcoming, comfy, spotlessly clean and with lots of extra amenities to make us feel at home. It had the feel of an upgraded room, newly refurbished, with a great Roberts radio, coffee machine, free water and lovely toiletries (which you could buy as well if you liked them). As we have an elderly pooch, I emailed to ask for a low floor room if at all possible and received an immediate reply reassuring me it was not a problem at all. I appreciated that, as without a lift it can be a bit of a trauma for our lovely old boy. The staff in all areas were lovely, professional, friendly and very helpful. Sam (the pooch) especially enjoyed his breakfast sausage and all the attention. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, although thankfully we had no issues to trouble them with, as they have thought of everything to make a stay a memorable and relaxing one. An 11am checkout is a rarity these days, but very much appreciated, as you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast, with lots of choices and worth the supplement and ease yourself into the day. Location-wise, couldn't be better, right in the heart of Thirsk, we didn't need to use the car at all. Lots to see and do, soak up the atmosphere of a busy market town, all in all a fantastic stay and we will return!"

"Excellent small hotel and traditional pub, Food available in cosy pub with no loud music or fruit machines ringing in your ears allowing a pleasant meal and drinks either inside or outside at the back in a spacious patio area. Rooms are a good size and look newly refurbished with a large walk-in shower and plentiful hot water and large screen TV. I would stay again if in the area as my first choice."

"The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Lovely shower. Only suggestions for improvement are some better pillows and adding vegetarian sausages as yoghurt to the breakfast menu. Although the place was very clean, someone had used the toilet in my room and not flushed. It was not a nice welcome to the room but putting that to one side I would book again. Stairs are steep though so might not suit everyone"

"We had an excellent stay for 3 nights in a dog friendly room, with a tasty cooked breakfast each morning. The property was spacious and very well kept. The room was lovely, with a nice en suite bathroom. Amanda made us feel very welcome. We would definitely stay again. A perfect base between the Yorkshire Dales and the east coast."

"This cottage has a really nice vibe very clean and ideally situated for visiting Thirsk and the local communities. The market square is a few short steps away The railway station is a pleasant 30 minutes walk away, but it does have a bus service if the weather is not too good The cottage is spread over 3 storeys and is modern kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor and sitting/living room is 1st floor and bedroom top floor.
