Trogir is a small walled city with a fascinating collection of historic buildings and monuments packed tightly into its old town. Inspect the historic core for evidence of its intriguing past and enjoy romantic strolls along the picturesque quay.

This small city more than 2,500 years old has been inhabited by the Greeks, Romans and Croats, as well as numerous other groups. Among the most influential occupiers were the Venetians who ruled for nearly four centuries from the early 1400s. They built numerous opulent palaces, towers, homes and fortresses. Enter through the old city walls to see the relics of Venetian rule, including depictions of the winged Lion of St. Mark, a symbol of the Republic of Venice.

Head to the city’s western edge to Kamerlengo Castle, a Venetian defence citadel once incorporated in the city walls. The twisting labyrinth of streets contains several other historic monuments including the Town Hall, the Grand Cipiko Palace and the Gate of Terra Firma. Don't miss the city's most famous attraction, the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. A centerpiece of the town, this Venetian church is characterised by its Romanesque portal. Inside, see an interesting collection of carvings, paintings and sculptures.

From October to May, visit the Convent of St. Nicholas. Founded in 1064, the convent is still home to a community of Benedictine monks. Enter to see the small collection of paintings and sacred objects, as well as a treasured 3rd-century Greek marble relief depicting Kairos, the god of opportunity.

Find several interesting and informative museums. Stop at the Pinacotheque to browse displays of scared art and manuscripts. Learn about Trogir's history at the Municipal Museum, housed in a stately former palace.

The nearest airport to Trogir is Split Airport, located just 3 miles (5 kilometres) away. Use bus services to get here from the airport or from the centre of SplitOpens in a new window. Trogir is easy to navigate on foot. Cross the bridge to the island of Čiovo, which has several lovely beaches.

"I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. I will write a detailed review on trip advisor but on the whole there were positives but also a few negatives. Unless you are up at the crack of dawn and become one of 'those' people who reserve sunbeds then you have no chance of sitting by the pool. Luckily ..."
