A hotel with a lot of character and history, with beautiful gardens and rural location. Breakfast was great; the room 23 was more than comfortable with all essentials. A very good value stay.

A beautiful old building in a great location but it needs a lot of money spending on it. The room was large but extremely dated. Carpet had stains, one of the beds had a castor missing which meant it wasn’t level. The bathroom was very old & the shower had no pressure. The mattresses were old and springy/soft. Could be a wonderful place but sadly not worth the nightly rate for what was supposed to be an executive room.

Location is great for us. We stayed in Room 3 in the courtyard as we had a small dog with us and they are not allowed in the Main Hotel rooms. We have stayed in this room before - its an excellent size but on the first floor. It seems to have been modernised from when we were last there which was nice. We didn't have breakfast or evening meal there as it is "hotel prices". Within walking distance of the hotel is one of the best pubs in Derbyshire - The Hollybush Inn - great beer and grub.

We enjoyed our stay at Makeney Hall. The first night we arrived late and the couch pull out bed had no sheets or blankets. The front desk staff was very kind and went and found what we needed and we were very grateful. The room was nice size and the grounds were very beautiful.
