Byland Abbey - a beautiful ruined abbey in a peaceful countryside setting, known for its rose window and lovely geometric floor tiles.

The Abbey has a number of areas where the original tiled floor is still in situ. This is a fine example, but by no means the best; the discovery of the floor was what really impressed me about Byland.

Nestled away in the middle of the Yorkshire Country side, Byland Abbey would likely have boasted the largest rose window in Yorkshire. Entry is £5.40 or free for English Heritage members.
