"You can fly directly to San Juan del Norte (Greytown), take a five minute boat ride to the lodge, and stay right in the middle of a 4,500 sq km bioreserve. We flew into San Carlos and took a 6-7 hour boat trip down the river to SJN. Patricia was knowledgeable, informative, and quick to respond in helping me to organize arrival and departure details. On the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, Pearl Lagoon is yet to be discovered by the majority of tourists. With the strong Creole culture, fantastic seafood, Saturday afternoon baseball games and laid back vibes this is a great place to while away some days. However, Pearl Lagoon's real draw are the Pearl Keys. A handful of deserted islands a few hours away by boat, this is the place to live out all your Shipwrecked/Robinson Crusoe fantasies. We spent the day snorkelling, eating coconuts and relaxing on this tiny island - our group of 6 were the only visitors to the keys that day (and about 75% of the tourists staying in Pearl Lagoon). Both amazing destinations and worth the effort to get to!
