Need a good place close to Gatwick Airport? This traditional pub-hotel was terrific, with some notable caveats. Although our reservation was made months in advance, we somehow got stuck with a an adjoining building attic room (no alternative was available), up a steep flight of steps, not ideal for the elderly.
Luckily, the weather was not excessively hot; a fan was not provided. Although the room was small, it was modern and comfortable, with plush carpeting and a king-size bed. A large LED TV was mounted on a side wall, making bedside viewing awkward. The large walk-in rain shower was nice, but the controls were a bit enigmatic. Unlike many English lodgings, various and convenient USB charging was available. We enjoyed the cozy ambiance of the pub, a few beers and a local English cheese plate. The staff were cheerful, friendly and inviting.
