Was asked to pay deposit upon checking in. Given there was nothing removal from the room, did they suspect I might be taking the bed with me? Overall, not impressed."

"The rooms. at the Essex Golf and Country Club are very nice and super clean. Be aware there is no in-room ac that we could find and just the smallest desk fan in the room but perhaps this is only an issue for 3 weeks a year! We arrived late (9.30pm) and check was smooth, went to the room and unpacked and notice in the room directory suggested the bar was open until 10.30pm. We meander up only to be informed that last orders was at 10pm so we would only be permitted to purchase one drink. Then...

The only small criticism I have is that on my second day during breakfast, they ran out of pancakes. "The maintenance issues did not take away from the enjoyment of our stay. However, for the price, I think it fell short of expectation. The taps did not turn properly, the sinks, shower and tub did not drain, the 4 poster bed was repaired by wrapping sheets around the posts (wth?) I think it is very important to note THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING! They did their best with fans, and then - with a very grateful heart - a portable air conditioning unit. The buffet was very good but had zero variation...
