Red currant bushes on road past The Dale Red currants (Ribes nigrum) Currants are closely related to the gooseberry. Red currants were first mentioned in European literature, in a German manuscript from the early 15th century. They were domesticated by the 16th century mainly in the Netherlands and Denmark. Red currants can be eaten raw but perhaps the most familiar use of red currants is the jelly called "Cumberland sauce". Lovely site, with new shepherds huts and yurts being adds to the site.. work is ongoing but done respectfully. Very peaceful with no WiFi, no phone signal or TV.. which was a plus, sat into the night by the fire pit talking playing cards etc.

Had a studio apartment for two for just two nights. Accommodation very clean, with well equipped kitchen, lounge and dining seating and large comfortable bed. Sadly, the purpose of our trip was to attend a funeral, but would definitely return in happier circumstances.
