700 years ago, a monk, inspired by the Caucasus mountains (and perhaps an inexplicable desire for solitude), built the Gergeti Trinity Church in the stunning backdrop of Mount Kazbek. It takes 2-3 hours to hike up from Kazbegi - opt for the lesser known, more scenic route that follows Gergeti village! And hike beyond Gergeti for spectacular vantage points.
