"Excellent onsen hotel right at the end of the first day of the Kohechi Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail. I came for the onsen and mountain seclusion, but they had such good maps of the Kohechi at the front desk that I decided to walk back to Koyasan the day I checked out. It’s about 20km through the mountains from Nosegawa Onsen to Koyasan, walking on a mix of well-kept trails and paved roads; overall, a moderately difficult hike with very good signage. The Izumiotsu subway station is a short 4 minute walk away and the supermarket is only 3 minutes. The supermarket has a fantastic selection of ready-to-eat choices. "OMG!! From the 11 course feast to the stone onsen (spa bath) to the friendly staff to the gardens (beautiful even in Feb before all the acers get their leaves & the cherries their blossoms). Dressing up in a yukata; eating & sleeping in a tatami mat room with sliding doors and windows - you HAVE to do this if you are anywhere near Osaka."
