St. Eloy's Church: Great Smeaton. St. Eloy's Great Smeaton : Restored in 1862 by Edmund Street 1824-1881, famous for his 'High Victorian' restoration of many churches (with unusual open belfry). St.Eloy was a French Missionary Bishop (d.c658) Patron saint of metalworkers, blacksmiths etc.
