This was a good stop-over hotel. It's not conventional - just a few rooms but a well-stocked help-yourself breakfast room, and it worked well for one night and the owner, Julia, was lovely and helpful. The room was relatively small - but well appointed and tea/coffee options and bathroom toiletries were all good. It was really warm in the room which was even before the heatwave, and the blackout curtains really needed to be closed for privacy as there is no blind/net curtain which did stop the benefit from an open window, so if you have a fan, take it with you!

I had a very bad experience with this hotel, it’s not a hotel, it’s not 4 star, there isn’t breakfast, no wifi and the owner doesn’t care. The rooms are not actually attached to the bar/restaurant downstairs so upon check in I I had to ask around as I was not given any instructions, where the barman gave me the owners number and I just had to keep calling until she picked up the phone to tell me the code to the lockbox. The room was fine but nothing special by any means. Breakfast is a room with some cereal bars and a communal fridge which doesn’t even get replenished. And if you stay in the Cookson room, WiFi doesn’t connect. I was there to work and I told the owner about this and she just picked and chose when to reply and when to ignore me, so offered no solution over my 3 nights and I had to find elsewhere to work. The advert is extremely misleading and there are a lot nicer places to stay! Spend your money more wisely than choosing this place, it’s a con.

A very clean and comfortable place. The rooms were very nice and the beds quite comfortable. The bathrooms were up to date and there was plenty of hot water. The pub next door was very hand for a drink and breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff.

Clean room with 2 twin beds.and cute decor. Just was very attentive. Attached pub (Railway Tavern) had a friendly atmosphere, and best English breakfast on our tip so far!

This was not a Hotel just a non staffed B&B With code key access, confused by the Railway Hotel next Door which is a totally seperate entity.We were amongst the many who went into the Hotel expecting it to be The premises ! But NO.Hotel owner and staff helped ,when they did not need to The picture on booking sites shows the Hotel not the Actual B&B. Confusing. That Aside The Stair Railing is breaking off at the Bottom and is dangerous for the Elderly ,and the Shower in the Cookson Room is a Trap ,with both Myself and after My Wife being unable to exit ,with the folding door sticking and been unable to be opened from inside,I got out by being taller and grabbing hold of the top of the Door and pulling it back from there. MY Wife was stuck in there for five minutes calling out to me to help her Exit it as she could not open it inward I did eventually hear her and rescued her. This Shower needs to have better exit access when in use. DenisH

The location on the corner of a quiet road junction was convenient, the staff free check in / out was sensible and progressive consistent with all relevant information gathered during booking. Street parking was ample and the room clean - if a little small for the furniture present. The bed was clean, soft and had enough bedding. The room and bathroom finishing was adequate, sanitary, but showed some signs of inconsideration (knots on the door frame showed through the paintwork - i.e. no 'knot priming' and the silicone sealant on the shower door was clean, but nearly 2cm onto the tiles in some places; the same tiles had been used on the floor as the shower so, while decorative and functional, difficult to clean / wipe down; there was an opening window but no extractor fan - so a damp bathroom or noise from the pub downstairs [NB: reviewed during world cup]). The range of self-serve continental breakfast was more than adequate; the small, clean, neat space to have it in was sufficient for one room/two people (booking instructions stated that breakfast could be taken to rooms on trays....once fully prepared which: low space) but not two (4 adults) really....waiting for toast, microwave porridge and kettles to boil. In summary: 'adequate' - a decent property at a reasonable price....but everything was a little tight to the point of being cramped. Bar located below was a nice idea; when I visited all seats were occupied with many patrons nose-in-phone so went elsewhere.
