I want to begin with saying that the staff at By Kinyas Hotel were incredibly friendly and had a very warm and gracious disposition. That's about all I can say that was positive about the experience. First, I thought I was getting a hotel room, but what we actually got was an apartment above the shop that was right next to the hotel and managed by them. Normally, this would be an upgrade, but this was not the case. So, where do I begin? Let's start off with that the air conditioner in the bedroom was not working. The fan worked, but it didn't blow out any cold hair. However, the air conditioner in the living room where our children slept did work. As you know, it is quite hot in Istanbul and at night, sleeping in the bedroom became unbearable. It got so bad, we took the mattress off the bed and pulled it into the living room so we could sleep. That was okay, but then there blackout curtains don't cover the entire window and we had a glaring light from the street lights outside illuminating the living room, which made it impossible for me to get much sleep. Thankfully, young kids can sleep through almost anything and perhaps you'd be okay with that, but for me, I couldn't stand it. Next, was the shower. Where do I start? First, there is a ton of black mold in the shower. I took many photos for proof. Also, the drain didn't work either. Whenever you would shower, the basin would fill up and overflow in the floor and just a few minutes.

Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The apartment was very old and not clean—there was visible dust, dirty kitchen appliances and the floors didn’t seem freshly cleaned. The bathroom was a major issue. The shower drain was completely clogged, causing flooding every time we used it. On top of that, the water temperature constantly switched from scalding hot to freezing cold, making it nearly impossible to shower comfortably. The reception desk was not very responsive—I had to ask 2–3 times before getting any help, and even then, the was no follow up. The property felt neglected and poorly managed.

Goede locatie. Op loopafstand van debelangrijkste attracties. Vriendelijk personeel alhoewel sommige obers s morgen nog niet hrlemaal wakker zijn. Mooi uitzicht vanaf het dakterras wat ook het restaurant is. Goed gegeten in het restsurant. Kamer is goed genoeg, maar heeft zijn gebreken. Schimmel op het plafond vsn de badkamer en een lekkende wastafel. De badkamer ziet er wel sjiek uit, maar de afwerking is net niet. Vandaar 1 ster minder

Highly recommend

We had a lovely stay. The rooms are small but well presented and have everything you need. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and their hospitality added to our trip. Great location to visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace which are all within a few minutes stroll. Recommended.

Location was good but terrible experience

We were smitten by the reviews and liked the location but the room was not as advertised inside a hotel. It was in a dilapidated apartment next door through some stairs in severe need of TLC. The second room did not have a real sofa bed as advertised - just two parts of the couch that they slid together. Moreover, we were surprised when the power went out one night and there was no heat in the room on a cold December night, and the hot water heater was broken so no hot shower. Even when the power returned, no one came by to fix it as promised and no action was taken to until I insisted with management. Even after they fixed the hot water heater, the tiny shower alternated between hot and cold every 5 seconds making it useless. Because of the cold, they eventually did let us borrow a very small hotel room that hadn’t sold that night in their main building just big enough for two of us, while the other two doubled up under blankets in a cold room. There was a clothes washer in the room, but the door was broken and would not unlatch after a cycle. The employees at the front desk were very pleasant and very polite and, if not for them, we would have walked out in rage. The manager seemed sympathetic to our situation but refused to offer us any solution to our problem nor give us any credit for the issues and refused to even respond to hotels.com when I opened a case. The location is very good and the property has potential if it is given some attention and is renovated. Good luck

We stayed in the largest type of room and it was more spacious than I expected for the price. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is also great, just a 5 minute walk to Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

Convenient location and friendly staff.

The staff is super friendly. The area however is very loud. The hotel isn't very well insulated so it got cold this time of year. The area however is very convenient for being a tourist.

Brilliant location and value for money

The hotel was excellently located in the centre of Sultanahmet and was excellent value for money - particularly the quality and range of breakfast choices which were all included in the cost. All the staff were really helpful. I would certainly stay again.
