"Reasonable price, centre of town location, the room and bathroom were a decent size as well as clean, comfy and well equipped. The stand out was the very cosy bed and pillows. The pub itself had friendly staff and nice food that was reasonably priced. The only points to note are that staying on a Saturday in summer meant I couldn’t park outside the hotel and had to park further up the high street. Note parking restrictions are mon to sat 8 am to 6 pm. The water pressure in the town is not great and that affected my shower. Also being a Saturday night in a pub there was some noise but generally quieter after closing and a good pair of foam ear plugs helps drown out the town centre hourly clock gongs. Overall I would stay again."
"I would normally say nothing rather than write a bad review but this place was so bad - the room in particular, the fact that no one cared and it showed , the lack of maintenance or bothering about customers , i think other guests should be aware.
We could have put up with having to search for someone to check us in, the dirty carpets, battered dirty paint work, incredibly slow service , being made to feel an inconvenience for having dinner ( food was nice when we eventually got it) and not having what I ordered for breakfast, but the room was beyond awful. It didn't have an outside window , but did have a dirty stained carpet, the worst mildew I have ever seen in a bathroom , a mattress that was so soft it must have been ancient . It was so warm with no means of fresh air we were unable to sleep .
The mist expensive hotel on our St Cuthbert's way trip and easily the worst"
"It is an old building but clean and well maintained. There are no staff on site, but when I rang up to check on access, I got immediate help and a call back from their head office, so was impressed by that. A continental breakfast was left in the room for us, including plenty of milk, left in the refridgerator."
"Stayed 29th May 26.
The entrance is not from the sea front, but there is pedestrian access during the day as they run a café.
Alison kept us well informed before we arrived and she met us at the door. Lots of useful information about buses and taxies in the hall way. Take a photo, as I think for some to walk in is a bit far.
Our twin room, Number 5 on the 2nd floor had the best view over the sea, and had everything we needed, including a pair of binoculars. There is a walk-in shower in the bathroom which was ideal for us.
Can't say much more as it was so perfect."
"The room was very big and spacious. It was very clean and came with en suite too. There was a back door to the car parking area, which was a nice touch to load/unload your cases. The bar was nice with seating areas for food in the evening, just like a restaurant. The food was exceptional in the evening and at breakfast. The service was too. Staff were very friendly and courteous. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it."
"Hotel and spa are stunning. Staff are friendly. Had a bad experience in the Charlie’s restaurant and the clubhouse cafe/spike bar. We headed for lunch in the clubhouse when we arrived as we liked the look of the menu, however we were told that a few of the items were unavailable due to a gas fault so this was fine but still depleted our choices. We ordered soup, pizza and haggis Bon Bon’s. The soup and Bon Bon’s were lovely but the pizza looked like it was microwaved and wasn’t very tasty, the meal came to £50 which I thought was extremely expensive for a snack menu. Then we had a reservation at Charlie’s restaurant for dinner, we chose the chateaubriand steak which is listed as a sharing option. However when it arrived it only came with one small portion of fries and a handful of spinach as well as a small peppercorn sauce. It was £95 and I would say it was only enough to feed one person, we had to order extra sides. We also tried to order a bottle of prosecco and were told that they had none left. We were told we could have champagne to which the cheapest bottle was £85 and as a young couple we were not willing to pay that. Overall the restaurant was extremely disappointing for such a great hotel. This is our second time at the hotel and we had a much nicer time on our last visit where we ate in the stateroom lounge but they have since changed the menu and it didn’t suit us hence why we went to Charlie’s."
