Clean room, easy assess to public transport (bus and metro), walking distance to pubic square, lots of restaurants around within short walk.
Staff was very good and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.
Only draw back wss short flight of stairs to reach elevators. Staff was always amiable, present and helpful. Public laundry facilities a couple doors down. Great breakfast. For older travelers it was not within walking distance of attractions. Uber about half the cost of a taxi.
We stayed at Dom Joao for 4 nights in June. The hotel is well located in a fairly quiet neighborhood and great access to transport, local restaurants and supermarkets. Very close to the airport, so a bolt/uber journey is very affordable. There is a fuel station opposite which brings some traffic at times but not a huge issue, good sound insulation.
Breakfast is satisfactory and the environment and room is very nice, modern decor in the deluxe double room that we had.
Service is great. Out thanks to Wesley who was very friendly.
Overall good value and experience staying here, recommended!
This not a glamour hotel. The lobby and breakfast area are but the rest of the property (including the rooms) is run down. The room and bathroom is clean however. You get what you pay for.
I stayed in this property at the end of a 3-week trip through Europe. It was, by far, the most comfortable place I stayed. This might seem like a small thing, but the bed was SO comfy, and I had the best night's sleep of the whole trip. The staff at the front desk was super nice and helpful, especially Weslley, and the location was perfect- just outside the city center but easy to get to the touristy parts. I hope to come back soon!

Hotel was spacious, but the guest beside us was talking to loud over the phone. The reception is tiny and uncomfortable, but the staff is great.
The property needs some updates. There are 2 small showers in the bathroom and both had black mold around caulking and one of the doors did not work. The room smelled musty. There are 2 small elevators that would fit about 2 persons each. A couple of good things about the property, however, is the convenient location that is very walkable to shops and restaurants; and that the reception staff was nice.

Nice hotel for a few days stay. Opposite a petrol station so rather noisy sometimes. Our shower broke and wasn't fixed for our last 2 days sadly and there was a problem with the internet so we didn't have access to that in our room either! But it was clean, the breakfast was sufficient and the staff were lovely. Short (uphill) walk from a convenient Metro station. Surrounding area rather rundown.

The Hotel is under construction, so breakfast isn’t offered and TV and Wi-Fi during the first 24 hours were non-existent. The second and third days they worked. Had a downstream of 5 Mbit, which is enough for Netflix and video calls.
The staff is super nice and excused for the construction.
If you only look for a clean room, an ok bed, and don’t want to pay extra, then this hotel works great.
Good place to sleep but don’t do it if you need to work remotely from there. Their wifi is so bad I wish they had said they didn’t have it. I had to go to the laundry place next to the hotel and steal their wifi pretty much the whole time I stayed there. Also the bathrooms aren’t cleaned properly and a lot of mould can be seen. The staff is really nice though.
We had an ok stay at Dom Joao. It started rather stressful when I received a message stating that my reservation would be cancelled if I didn't call and settle payment ahead of time. I reached out several times to no answer. After contacting hotels.com they were able to get in contact with them but would not add me into the call to pay ahead of time. I was told that they would charge me when I arrived. Before I arrived, I was charged on the card on hold and was therefore charged a foreign transaction fee. I would have preferred to pay using my travel card when I arrived to avoid the fee. It would have been nice to be advised of this before I left on my trip to sort it all out instead of wasting so much time and stress during my trip. The walls are super thin so we heard all of neighbors coming and going and talking in the hallways. The shower is small but that's typical in Europe. The sliding glass door to the balcony did not lock and the tv does not have an option to sign into Netflix which would have been nice. It was a very convenient location for me though and the staff was very nice.
The hotel was extremely nice! It was absolutely great value, extremely clean, comfortable, modern and had great staff!! No negatives whatsoever!! We would definitely stay again and highly recommend it!
Loved our stay especially. Lovely clean room. Eliza at front desk was wonderful. So helpful and always happy and ready to help. Actually sad to say goodbye to her when we left. Thanks guys.
The hotel is cheap and cheerful, one gets what one pays for. Its location is not that close to the old town, although there are couple of cafés within walking distance, luckily taxis are cheap.
This hotel is in a good area, just a few minutes walk to the metro station. The room was very nice. The elevators were quite small but there were stairs too so not a huge issue.
