"Our room, on the first floor, was excellent with lovely views. The food was of a high quality and the service was very good except on one of our three evenings when we were forgotten about and it took at least three complaints to get our meal started. On this occasion we were in the restaurant for about two hours and it took 45 minutes before we got our starter. This was a shame because otherwise everything was perfect."

"The place was falling apart the roof was leaking and the whole place smells, the rooms were basic but the beds were like sleeping on a lump of stone even immigrants would avoid this place like the plague."

"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! Fab location in proximity to the Shopping outley which us walkable and also The Blacksmiths at Gretna Green for weddings ... Thanks for a great stay xx"
