Overall, the hotel was nice, clean, comfortable, and in a great location near the Mall of America and the airport. However, I had a serious issue during my stay that needs to be addressed.
At check-in, the front desk agent asked if I wanted to use the card on file to cover charges, and I said yes. There was no clear explanation that I needed to physically present my card later to pay the pet fee. Because of that miscommunication, I thought everything was taken care of.
The next day, after leaving for breakfast and shopping, I returned and couldn’t access my room. When I went downstairs, I was told my key had been deactivated because they needed my credit card for the pet fee since I booked through a third party. This was extremely frustrating and inconvenient—especially since all of my belongings, including my child’s medical equipment, were locked inside. Thankfully, it wasn’t an emergency, but it easily could have been.
This situation could have been avoided with proper communication. A simple phone call or email would have resolved the issue instead of locking me out of my room.
To make matters more frustrating, my pet didn’t even stay on the property—I had him checked into a doggy daycare for the entire trip.
While the hotel itself was nice, this experience at the front desk left a negative impression. I hope management improves communication and handles situations like this more appropriately in the future.
